2008 2009 will be the year of the Wii.

But every year was the year of the Wii! :P

Same shtick, just different criteria.

Well, SW wise, this really is the year of the Wii (unless you hate Japanese games...in which case I will call blasphemy) ^_^ Last year went to 360. PS3 came kinda close though, with VC and Disgaea 3. Before that I'd say Wii due to SMG and stuff.
Why has my post become italicized? I pressed something on my keyboard and this happened...

Apparently your definition of a year's winning console is the one with the most Japanese RPGs. Not surprising coming from you, but I thought you'd realize why that makes no sense. I'd agree with you that 2007 was definitely the Wii's best year for software so far, but that still doesn't mean that it had the best selection (especially taking personal opinion into account).

Honestly I never heard people claiming any year was the year of the Wii especially 2008 until now. What you stated is more of a PS3 fans reply to each year

OT: I agree its crucial for 3rd partys and hopefully they suceed. However Bloom Blox did not bomb.

@soriku: they could be seen as pretty weak seeing as they were the only decent 3rd party games released in period of a year or so, or at least a pretty long time. The boom blox counter thingy on this page is exagerated, I think I read, and it hasn't even reached 500k (although it is getting a sequel). Zack and Wiki sold extremely slowly, and No More Heroes really should've done better considering how good a game it was.

Anyway I gotta go, i'll continue this discussion later :)

2009 is gonna be just another year of incredible sales for the Wii.

Wii has already won. Wii has all the good games, and the numbers of consoles to make the 3rd party publishers come to it. Every year from here on out is the year of the Wii, until the next generation.

But it doesn't have just JRPGs :P There's some good Western games coming (Conduit, Overlord, Deadly Creatures) and some other non-JRPG games like Mad World, HotD: Overkill, Sin and Punishment 2, etc.

And we still don't know Nintendo's lineup besides Wii Sports Resort.

Well we still don't know the full lineups of the PS3 and 360 either, but they're already looking fairly impressive as well.

Valkyria: It takes a lot of effort to explain a point and then miss it. Of course I was mocking PS3 owners, and using that cliche to mock Wii owners.

Look guys, the Wii is doing fine. It's the most successful platform for third parties from Nintendo by far. There have already been some amazing games both from first and third party developers. The Wii will never be the third party beasts that the PS1 and PS2 were, but it will still have amazing offerings. I still haven't seen any third party games for the Wii this year that make me think it will be that much more amazing than last year. Remember the hype for 2008? Mario Kart, Wii Fit's worldwide release, Boom Blox, De Blob, not to mention all the opportunities with the balance board. I'm not saying that 2009 won't be a great year for the Wii, but it won't be some incredible, ground breaking "year of the Wii" and I just see people saying this again for 2010. Don't sit around making the same mistake.

I think you're definitely overstating the problem. I think The Conduit and Mad World will both be huge sellers and this will boost Wii's image among third parties.

This year lineup looks impressive when it comes to third party support, not so much for first party, but I think this is going to be a very important year for the wii because if third party developers manage to sell well on wii may actually create similar conditions like in the two previous generations where the leading console was getting the most support. right now I think that the company that enjoys that right now is Xbox360. will see.

not a fan but a gamer

Conduit will probably get lots of Halo players to upgrade to the Wii -- it will be huge.

deBlob had hype???? And honestly I only remember negativity from the old Wii Fit and Balance Borad threads (It's going to kill gaming!!!!!)
