Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 aim/look speed: Realism? Or bad attempt at it?

people complain cause they suck at it, they are used to idiot proof aiming in shooters.

K2 is realism, you dont let of a clip and maintain perfect balance or movement.

Come back to me when you've actually fired a gun. For starters the recoil in this game is far to low.

As for moving speed, its just to sluggish as well. Most assault rifles fall in the 7-10lbs range. They definitely have heft to them, but they are hardly heavy enough to prevent quick, snap aiming. If you want some proof of this then look up videos of delta force or the navy seals training. They hardly have slow, "realistic" aiming.

yea but this isnt Battlefield or Rainbow where realism is key.

its Killzone where realism is there "goal" and not key coming to think of it this game feels ALOT like Counter strike.IMO

CS?

This game doesn't feel anywhere close to CS.

And how the hell does realism being the "goal" justify a sluggish aiming system?

Hey folks,

I have been looking at this with one of our Game Designers and we are starting to come to the conclusion that this is down primarily to the design decision to make the game weightier. Killzone 2 is not a 'twitchy' shooter like some of you might be (rightfully) accustomed to and we think it might simply be down to some growing pains on some people's behalf. In this demo we also did not add the section that comes before this where a player would naturally climatize to the controls and have simply dumped you on Corinth River, so I think a lot of these complaints will be negated by the players natural progression through the full game.

So at this moment we are not considering it a bug, or anything that needs to be patched.

We do suggest however not having the sensitivity on full as this can make the appearence of a delay seem more aggressively. Work your way up the sensitivity scale slowly as you become more accustomed to the game.

What i am however interested in, what FPS games have you just recently or are playing currently. The majority of people on here seem to not have any issues adjusting and we think it might simply down to a certain mindset more than anything, which is of course of interest to us too from a playability standpoint.

Have a good Friday folks.

@ kylie: well, personally, I think that once you go into an aiming mode (in real life) you don't go all left and right. You do go very slowly, inching your way to the perfect shot. That's why I actually love the way it's done in KZ2.

What kind of crack are you smoking?  If we had to aim in real life like they do in killzone 2, i'd be dead right now.  Any game with really slow aiming that speeds up the more you hold it is stupid.  It takes more "skill" because it's a stupid control setup.  It would be like making a game where, if you move the mouse left, you aim to the right.  Sure, it takes more "skill" to play that way.  But it's still a retarded way to control the game.  I really hope kz2 changes this before they ship, or their sales are gonna suffer because of it.  I don't care if you think it takes skill or whatever fanboys are trying to argue.  The average gamer isn't going to like this.  The average gamer makes up the bulk of game sales.  Can't wait to hear the excuses for why this game isn't going to sell well.  Gonna be interesting.

Recoil to low comapred to what ? every gun is differant kid you cant compare the thing in K2 to any real one as its not based on any specific one nor is it ment to be a perfect simulation of anything thats out there.

As far as specials they carry whats needed for the specific mission, swinging around a 6lbs hk416 is easier then a nearly 10lbs ak or m16.  Much of the time they carry less then 5lbs submachine guns for speed and lower weight and better rotational movemnt do to their smaller length.  Then there is the factor of wtf are they waring and how much it inpeedes their movement, how much armour do they have on or other gear.  Some factors you might want to think about.

Iam sure a special in his tshirt holding a 3lbs submachine gun is very fast during training on some youtube vid.

there is nothing sluggish bout it.

Last I checked, the boxart for this game said "Killzone 2" on it. Can someone point me to where it said "COD4"?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

People don't use iron sights very often because you don't need to. You can usually take somebody down by shooting form the hip unless they're pretty far away.

In real life, you wouldn't be using iron sights for a guy 5-15 feet away if you were moving around like you would in Call of Duty. You would only do this if you just happened to be sitting there waiting for him already.

Just in case no one mentioned this but if you go to OPTIONS
you can CHANGE EVERYTHING to make it play like COD4 for those who like to complain

put zoom hold
put it on L1
put the sensitivity all the way up
and it feels like a different game

IMO

Raising the sensitivity will not fix how the game aims, the game is already too loose and raising it will make this even worse.  My speed is set below average right now, because there is no way for me to make accurate shots while using the iron sights at the higher speeds, due to the aiming speed increasing as you move it.

I played CoD4 at max sensitivity for months and got off accurate shots all the time, due to that fact they don't increase the aim speed as you move, its a contant and allows you to move the analog stick more while moving the aiming thing on screen less.

And if people would complain about this like me, then GG would add a patch that would allow you to change the aiming speeds while in ironsights.
