Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 aim/look speed: Realism? Or bad attempt at it?

I'm a sniper in almost every shooter I play. You can't do that if the controls simply don't react fast enough or are really hard to control.

That bugged the absolute hell out of me. I'd be getting Killzone for the MP, and it will suck if I can't make Headshots. Good control > Realism any day.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

RE5 has some of the worst controls in gaming.  They finally updated it so you can aim with the right stick.  Congrats capcom, you updated your controls by about 6 months.  They're still about 8 years behind the times...  Reminds me of the older RE's where you couldn't move and turn at the same time.  Some people defended them back then too.  Sorry, the controls are terrible.  They just are.  If it doesn't bug you much, good for you.  The controls are still going to hurt both games' sales.  Still looking forward to both games when they come out, but better controls would help both games go a long way.

There's nothing wrong with the controls in either game. I can't understand why anyone would deprive themselves of two of the best games to come along in years for such a retarded reason. Well, it's their loss.

I think the whole inertia (I'm surprised no one has used this word in the thread yet...) thing is a tad over done in Killzone 2. If they just tone it down a little I think the game would be better for it. Although, it's got to be tough aiming in a warzone with adrenaline flowing in your veins and weighed down by 60-100 (or even more) pounds of gear.

I'm still wondering if this could even be considered realism. In reality, all the weight on your body (assuming it's not on your arms) shouldn't make it this hard to aim your gun. Like I said, I could understand if it was a huge gun, but for the basic rifles/pistols, it feels more like they're just trying too hard. When it comes to aiming weapons, they just don't immerse me like the rest of the game's movements/animations do. I personally prefer precise controls combined with massive recoil. KZ2 does have some recoil, but I expected abit more based on what I've read from others - it's really easy to control as long as you're using your ironsights.

As for the controls (not movement), they feel fine. Not perfect but still really good. I'd feel more comfortable using the cover system if it wasn't for the PS3's lame triggers.

On a random note, I really like how you can't reload when using ironsights - it's a really small but nice touch.

The controls aren't bad at all, that's precisely why I'm ignoring complaints about it being not as good as COD. Every game doesn't have to be like COD to be good.

Exactly.

February 27th can't come soon enough! I keep feeling the need to play that demo!

Um, not buying a game because of the controls is not a retarded reason. Controls are incredibly important. I'm glad you can overlook such a huge issue like that.  You must be incredibly easy to please.  Wish I could bring crap into my home and be happy with it.

Btw, it's everyones loss.  The devs will make less money than they could, which hurts their company (obviously).  My friend and I are going to rent RE5 and try to play through it in a day instead of buying it.  The coop is enticing, but the controls just.... suck so much.  Five of us aren't buying it because of the controls.  Five out of six because of controls alone.  They're losing a ton of sales because they don't want to take the time to update their control scheme.

If you want more examples look at LBP.  Yes, everything else about that game is cool.  But it's a platformer.  Reviews that praise the heck out of it and give it a 95/100 but then state that the controls aren't very good drive me nuts.  Let me restate that it's a MF'ing platformer.  There isn't a single thing more important to a platformer than good controls.  Nothing.  Everyone notice how LBP's sales dropped after the initial wave?  I obviously have no "proof" of this statement, but I think it has a lot to do with the terrible controls.  One more game I, and many others, didn't buy because of bad controls.  Really glad I rented that one first.

Sorry, i'm kinda just ranting now.  Poor controls are one aspect of gaming that just really drives me nuts.  So many decent games out there that coulda been so much better with good controls.  There will always be people that overlook bad controls or (apparantly in okeys case) somehow find nothing wrong with a terrible control scheme most of us instantly hate, but to the majority of us out there controls are a big deal.  Sales will go down dramatically if people don't like the controls, and there are a ton of people who don't like the controls in KZ2.

I should probably state that the controls aren't the reason I won't be buying KZ2.  The poor aiming mechanic will impact sales, but its the lack of coop that keeps me from a purchase.  I don't like the MP enough to spend $60 on it, and there aren't a whole lotta shooters I enjoy playing solo nowadays.

I hate Killzone 2 controls.....plain and simple.
