Forums - Sales - First day sales in Japan (2/5) - Demon's Souls (PS3), Another Code:R (Wii)

And another Wii game flops.

Seriously, while 3rd parties do well in the US and Europe, it seems even the PS3 is doing better than the Wii on the 3rd party front.

Another Code isn't 3rd party...

Anyways, I'm surprised by Demon's Souls.  By how little they shipped and by how much it sold through.

Wow, you're right. I thought it was. Hmm...

re: Wii & RPG titles:

In terms of RPGs, the Wii is easily the weakest platform. The 360/PS3 have more and better RPGs - not to mention bigger budget RPGs. The DS kicks its butt. And the PS2... well, better not mention that.

On top of that, the Wiimote just isn't designed for RPGs - at all. Maybe it could be - but not traditional RPGs, no way. Action games... Sports games... but not RPGs.

Heck, it hasn't even got a SINGLE decent RPG from Nintendo: Golden Sun, Paper Mario (Super Paper does NOT count), Pokemon, Mario RPG, ...

In fact - I have pretty good collections for both the Wii & DS. I don't have a SINGLE Wii RPG (no, Zelda doesn't count). On the DS, I have 8...

Just about says it all. RPGs may *never* take off on the Wii, just like fighting games won't.

Well, lets be fair here. Demon Soul is a pretty big budget game, aimed squarely at the Japanese market. Sales look pretty promising - although its bound to be top-heavy.

I don't know if that's necessarily true, it's style is a lot more western than most JRPGs.

Low, but expected number for Demon's souls, it does have a good sell-through.

Everything else is low, unfortunately.

Next week we'll see Mario & Luigi 3 RPG - that should have some decent sales.

I still Ninty just need some bundles to excite the Japanese Wii market. Not bundling WiiSports with it might have ended up being a big mistake. Time to start bundling it - for free - with every Wii sold.

I don't see the game's appeal to a Japanese audience. The game has all sort of western vibe to it, the animation, the gameplay mechanic, the fact that the protagonist isn't some androgenous teen... Its also been proclaimed the spiritual successor of Kings Field which sold like utter rubbish in Japan.

This is aimed more at western audiences than anything and even then I doubt it'll have a warm reception; It just feels so generic, like something I'd pick up in the bargain bin for shits and giggles for my cousin's PC.

Demon souls does great...and both midnight club versions pretty goddamn close

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

with that kind of sell-through I hope Demons Soul's manages to tripple it's first day sales - that would be a good achievement

Demon Souls BEATS Ninja Blade (which seems to have a bigger budget) in its first day itself
