Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Shuts Up Gabe Newell!

Have another donut Gabe.

I am in the presence of pure comedic genius.

Please, bestow the ways of your unparalleled wit upon a former infidel like me so that I may also bring mouthy developers into ruination with a few abrasive strokes of my keyboard.

@Garnett: Newell wasn't very polite, he basically said that he doesn't develop for PS3 because he consider it crap. Other developers found it maybe not very easy, but by no means impossible, so questioning his attitude isn't so wrong.

link?

Link? What are we talking about in this thread? Obviously I'm referring to his phrases quoted or reported in this thread. I understand more enthusiast Sony fans can get pissed from them. To remove any doubt, I'd think he deserved such a reaction even if he insulted Wii's (and heavens know how often it happened, particularly before Wii facts proved detractors wrong once and for all) or XB360's architectures, personally I think Cell is an interesting architecture, although for general purpose uses it would be better an implementetion with more than one PPE core, but I consider Wii's architecture very good too, as Nintendo at the same time did a great innovation and what the best engineers recommend to meet a project needs too, "K.I.S.S." and while I don't like either MS or some of its products' reliability, I like XB360's architecture too, it clearly showed that PowerPC is still perfectly suitable to high performances too and easy to exploit for developers.

Wow, hiphopgamer needs to check it's sources again because it is fact, the PS3 hasn't put out anything as important to gaming on it's platform as Valve's Half-Life for PC.

(Sorry PS3 fanboys, same could be said about 360 and Wii, but it's a PS3 fanboy site that's written the article).

No one in this thread has provided proof of him talking shit about PS3.

Title is misleading because...it's not true.

While I think Valve is utterly moronic for not developing on the PS3 because they're too uppity to bother learning the architecture, he IS entitled to his opinion. I think, in the long run - and I'm talking years from now - they're bitterness toward Sony will eventually catch up with them.

As for right now, they make their money..they don't need to port to the PS3 - but they're stupid not to..it's garunteed money, and I don't care how much money you make as a company - what's wrong with some extra income? If you can sell a few extra MILLION units, why would you pass that up? As I said..their stance will come back to haunt them.

Why does anyone care what Gabe thinks or what is company does or doesn't want to do? Doesn't the PS3 have enough stuff? Whining about Gabe and Valve is like whining about Kojima not wanting to bring MGS to the 360. It is his choice, so be it.

Also, how do we know it is "guaranteed money"? Was Bioshock on the PS3 "guaranteed money"? Did they even break even with it? How about The Orange Box? Was that "guaranteed money"?

A "few million extra sales"? Did Bioshock on the PS3 do this? Anyone know what The Orange Box did on the PS3?

http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=13320

It didn't even sell 200,000 copies (according to this site). It did 850,000 copies (according to this site) on the 360.

If doing a port doesn't even cover the costs of development for a system, why should a company do it? There are VERY FEW titles that break into multimillion copies on the PS3. There are times when games need to NOT be multiplatform.

I agree,I wonder if i made a thread saying

360 Shuts up (whateverhisnameis)

And Gears 2 proves it!

Gabe Newell stated that the PS3 is a bad console, a failure, and that Sony should stop making it and try again. He refuse to develop games for the PS3 console because of its hard-to-develop-for cell, or so he says. This means we wont be seeing any PS3 port of Left 4 Dead. This also should have been obvious when Valve laughed and said they can’t wait to see Left 4 Dead on the PS3 (which they were being sarcastic). Gabe Newell needs to check his sources again because it is fact, that Valve hasn’t ever made anything close to the quality of killzone 2 this generation on the so called easy-to-develop-for platform labeled Xbox 360. Gabe Newell, as a well respected game developer should welcome the challenge, game development is not always going to be easy and you have to work hard at it to get amazing results as shown in Killzone 2. Until Gabe Newell can prove that he can out do anything of full potential for the PS3 on the 360, then he will eat his own words regarding the PS3 being terminated or being a failure.

Exactly, hes just being lazy, if you put a little effort into it there could be many games out like Killzone 2 on the PS3.

I think he'd rather make money.

Here's how this stands, Newell comes out and tells us the PS3 is a horrible piece of hardware to develop. Then fucking JOHN CARMACK, the one who wrote pieces of the DOOM code on assembly, comes out and says the PS3 is shit to develop for. Then we get some developer who hasn't done SHIT for gaming who comes out and says that the PS3 is amazing. Now really, who are you supposed to listen to? These 2 men have created games which have defined and completely re-defined FPS gaming. There is no one else that has contributed to gaming as much as these two people. Not to mention Carcmack probably knows hardware inside and out. I'm sorry, as far as I'm conscerned the PS3 architecture = a PoS to develop for.

I also lawl at anyone who says that there has been a better game than Portal that has come out since its release (Except World of Goo), or that there is a better one announced currently.

When did Carmack say that? I'm not doubting it, I've just never seen it.

It was an interview last year when he got asked about the 3 consoles. He completely bashed the PS3 saying that the architecture is really bad. I think it was some summit or something. It was with Jeff Green I believe. I'd find the linkr ight now but I have to fly off to work.
