Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 Shuts Up Gabe Newell!

@Garnett.

Troll account (check)- check again.

Personal insults (check)- I suppose, but somehow I doubt Gabe Newell has any idea that my comment's exist, somewhat nullifying their impact.

Banned (almost) - Almost means nothing. I don't like the man, so I insulted him. That's about as bad as I will get around here.

Well Newell can say whatever he wants, I won't be missing his games LMAO. If you make a good game, be humble about it and the respect will come.

Asking a company to ditch a product they spent 3 bln on is beyond unreasonable...it's downright stupid!

Newell suggested this before they lost the entirety of the PS2's profit on the PS3, as I remember.

Doesn't matter when he said it. When R&D is done, its done. It was already expensive before they started making price cuts and taking huger losses. you really think sony's gaming division should have skipped this gen? That is as senseless as it gets.

like I said, if you're a ganme dev, dev your games for whatever platform you want but don't tell people how to run their business...in a condescending manner to boot. Did this guy think his games would've "saved" the ps3 or sony would die without him? What a joker. Have fun playing his games. I never bought any of them in my life and couldn't care less about his support.

I would do that but I am not sure if my Laptop could handle a game like L4D.

I have an HP Pavilion DV2000 with an NVidia GeForce 7150M card, nothing to brag about.

Hmm.. Not sure if that would take it. You could always check SRLabs.com (System Requirements Lab) to see if your computer meets the minimum/recommended specs for the game. You can also easily find that limited time demo valve put out through torrents. It's not officially available through Steam anymore, but it's still out there.

gabe is fat so his gamez sux! did it shut his mouth cuz he eated a ps3? lolololzzz

Ugh.

Wait, Valve outsources 360 ports to EA too? Or are they just published by EA, like the PC retail versions are?

Oh, I was just going by what someone else said...I need to learn to stop believing in people and start believing in facts, my bad=P

Valve are the best developers this generation. That's just the way it is.

This would be a fair point if he hadn't been right. Newell said the PS3 was going to be a disaster for Sony financially, and he was right. Yes, faced with the way things have turned out versus just dropping th R&D costs and bailing, they would have been better off washing their hands, financially. That sounds rough, but it's true.

EA didn't even publish Left 4 Dead, they just distributed it. The EA logo doesn't appear on the box. Nor is it on any of the title screens, from what I remember.

Although I believe Valve had some assistance from another studio in making the 360 version, for what that's worth. I forget which one, though.

I'll probably give that a try later on after work.

L4D looks like a fun game. I would to at least give it a shot.

EA are bringing Left 4 Dead to PS3 in June. Valve do not like developing games for PS3. EA brings ports of Valve games to PS3: The Orange Box and next it will be Left 4 Dead.

If Left 4 Dead doesn't even break even for EA, then maybe EA should stop with the multiplatform approach on games that come out WAY after the 360 version.  I believe it would be like trying to port MGS4 to the 360 NOW.  It is WAY too late in the cycle.  It would be also like Namco trying to port Beautiful Katimari to the PS3 also.  Sometimes, it is just too late.

Let's see if L4D manages to break at least 200,000 copies.

Honestly, I agree with you. It's pointless to bring L4D to ps3 now. plus, the EA port is almost guaranteed to suck. 360 can have it. Ps3 fans, get KILLZOWNED!!!

The PS3 getting an exclusive FPS that is set to be an AAA effort should keep people happy.  A problem with doing late ports of games, is that they completely miss the marketing window for the initial release, and would require an additional marketing budget.  This is probably a reason why a game doesn't sell as well when released way late in the game.  And the EA porting it is yet another sign of suckage.

I also might as well comment here on Kaz's logic and the whole "it is difficult to program for on purpose".  This logic is proof Sony has lost what it had with the original Playstation.  The original Playstation was designed to be easy to code for, and it got the games.  The PS2 lucked out at the time, and gave Sony false reasoning in what it was doing.  Or, maybe Sony is just puffing smoke now.  The puffing is to conceal other plans it has.  Sony likely wants to go after Intel with the Cell and try to take over the living room.  End result is that it holds up the Playstation brand as fodder in its quest for dominance.
