InFamous is optimistic, I think it will have low first week sales and high LT, ala Uncharted.
Now, for the one you singled out. God of War.
The original has sold 3.21 million units. Actually, it's sold more than that. The numbers are outdated. Notice how there is no week to week for Europe. Also note its disappointing first week.
Now, we move onto God of War II. VGC says 2.43 million. VGC is wrong. Again, no weekly numbers for Europe, and despite the NA opening week being triple that of God of War, the LT in NA is lower. This probably means that the entire game is undertracked. And according to IGN, who I find are rarely wrong, God of War II outsold the original. Of course, there is no evidence of this anywhere else, so it's probably untrue. Nevertheless, let's say 3 million LT for GoW2.
When was God of War II released? March 2007. It was officially the seventh gen. All three consoles were out, the PS3 had some great games on the horizon. Nobody was buying PS2 games anymore! The seventh gen consoles had sold around 17.5 million units together. And yet, God of War 2 managed to do over 500k in North America alone.
We tend to see sequels outselling their last gen predecessors: MGS4 is definitely on track to outsell MGS3, Halo 3 has outsold Halo 2, etc. This is especially true for the "hardcore" titles. With a proper marketing campaign and some legs, along with no piracy, I say God of War II can break 4 million. It releases near the beginning of the gen, as opposed to near the end, so has more times to sell, especially on Greatest Hits.
EDIT: I think it's far more ridiculous that you think EyePet, a crappy EyeToy clone, is going to sell more than every other game on a Sony console put together. 760 million? More than Wii Sports?
