Forums - Sony - Should sony let the hackers in? (PS3)

Although psp hacking main purpose was for piracy , it also allowed a plethera of useful plug-ins and upgrades to the psp such as in-game music with every game (which the ps3 struggles with)

Now the question is should sony unlock the ps3 to allow plug-ins , they have nothing to lose because the system is already not region locked, and because hackers can make some real good things for the ps3 if they can make something for a handheld that the system struggles with.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

From what I know the PS3 is region-free. Only thing that is not are movies.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Except then piracy would become a problem, which would eat into (already non-existant) profit.

After the psp debacle, you really expect sony to allow this

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

If they were at least selling the hardware for a profit I would say why not. People buying systems and no games for the PS3 is probably Sony's worst nightmare about now.

nahh, well not for a while since its still un economical for pirates to pirate bd discs. if it were then we should already be seeing pirated bd movies of which i haven't seen any.

or sony could just unlock the rsx for use in linux.

people have already hacked PS3

Alls sony needs to do is lift access to the Hardware Acceleration (RSX?) in Linux

Once this is done, then we have XBMC. Once we have XBMC, we have support for all divx, x264/MKV, Emulators (Lets emulate Xbox1 games:D), PC Games (That are compatible with linux), etc, etc ,etc

I would never pirate PS3 games, I'll support the PS3 Game Developers...but for a media center solution, PS3 would be a perfect choice
