Sonic has been kneecapped by Luigi. That's the only explanation.

To me it looks like he's shooting at traditional targets and the mushrooms are just decoration, like Goodyear balloons.

And I agree with you, it's fun when you place the whacky characters in a "normal" setting, but not so fun if you mess too much with it. I don't want power-ups on the tennis court.

Or at least they should make it an option.
