I hope they make it SDHC! With the ability to store so much, we could see the addition of Sega CD and Saturn games to the VC! And more N64 games hopefully!

def looking fwd to seeing how this comes to pass.
I thought Nintendo said that the update would allow you to download games from the Shop Channel directly to the SD Card? and that's it!!! That is not a solution.
I hope we can load from the SD Card. That is what Nintendo needs to do.

That's all they've said so far. You know Nintendo doesn't always give you the whole story the first go around.
But like I stated before, that would very simple to implement can could be coded and graphically tied-in in just a single day. It's taking months becayse the executable coding and DRM take much longer to develop. It should also be noted that the DSi will allow executable code from the SDHC card reader it has.

I don't suppose anybody has any idea when we'll get this update? I heard Spring but Spring lasts 3 months... are we talking March or will we have to wait until May.
I know it's not that much longer but I'm an impatient little so-and-so.
Spring is all we're getting but I imagine it may coincide with the release of the DSi in the US.

During his presentation at the Nintendeo Conference in autumn 2008, Iwata said the update coming in spring 2009 would do two things: you got the first one, which is quite clear, but the second is a bit vague.
1. Software purchased from the Shopping Channel can be downloaded directly to an SD card.
2. A simple operation will allow Wii software on an SD card to be copied to and run from the internal storage memory.
The above is my own translation of his comments available on the official Nintendo website.
I find it interesting (confusing?) that in the Japanese where he uses the word "copy", they instead use the word "transfer" in the English translation on the Nintendo website.
Anyway, that is what the man said last autumn. Personally, I hope it all works out like Viper is saying.
Viper: I've yet to use the SD card slot in my DSi and don't know exactly how it operates. Do you know if the DSi copies all files to internal memory before running the software, or does it continue to access the SD card while the game is running?

I have a 1TB hard drive which I bought for £70 but it is soon going to be filled up so I might have to get a new one. How do you fill up a 1TB hard drive you ask? Well I have a HD recorder and record HD movies from Sky HD. Each movie is around 11gb and I record at least 2 movies a day. Don't ask when I will ever get a chance to ever watch all those movies but at least it's good that I have them on tap ready to watch if I have nothing else better to do.

Good God.
My laptop has a 40GB hard drive that is just about half filled.... I have about 4GB worth of photos, 1.5GB of Music and I haven't checked the rest.
As to the SD thing... I don't care about SDHC.... I will never fill the 1GB card I have (after all the 512MB internal is only about half taken up with games, the other half is with various channels, including the ones already on the Wii (so you don't actually get a full 512MB because Mii, Photo channel etc take up space)

Sounds nice if they let you play from SD card which should be the case since you can already store them on SD cards already. Just adding ability to d/l to SD cards pretty much is useless unless they let you play directly from SD cards. They should also allow you to access the News and Forecast channels without having Wii 24/7 connection on. I mean why can't you just load them and connect to the channel and d/l the info then.
Off topic but didn't want to make a thread about it. When I play NES games on my VC and I hit the home button a bunch of dead pixels pop up on the buttons. However, any other game/VC game on other systems this doesn't happen at all. Sounds pretty freaking weird huh?
