Shin Megami Tensei is getting every realese bigger, shin megami tensei: persona 4 have good chances to reach a million, this franchise always do really well on reviews. I think it could turn a really important jrpg, and be a monster hit in the nexts games. If Atlus don't destroy it like Namco did with Xenosaga(others rpg that had the chance of being big), it's in the right way for in the next 10 years maybe be challenge for FF(that is getting worse every game..)

JRPGs are a relatively unpopular genre, with the exception of a few major titles (FF, mainly). Otherwise they're very niche.

Honestly, I think the name is going to prevent it from ever getting traction here.

Persona 4 did well in Japan, so-so in North America, and will most likely sell nothing in Europe.

I think there is no chance for SMT series to ever challenge Final Fantasy, especially since FF is getting better every new release now. If there is a console jRPG franchise that can challenge FF in future (worldwide) then it's Dragon Quest or KH.

Somehow I dont think Teen suicide will ever be poplular for the game.

It's a shame really. I picked that game up the other week. Really excellent storyline, gameplay and the whole dating thing was a pretty cool side story ;) America won't promote jrpgs just like japan dislikes the xbox360

atlus has said that it will support the xbox 360 in the future

That was only in Persona 3, in the fourth they did away with guns to bring out the Persona and instead went with cards.

OT: I would like it to happen, but I doubt it.  I don't think it'll ever be universal enough, has too many Japanese cultural things in my mind for it to become hugely popular in NA.
