Forums - Sales - Iwata: Wii could pass PS2, also new DS/PS2 sales data revealed.

@Koffieboon: EU, you mean, not Europe. Europe is a lot bigger than that.
If "Europe" in this case is countries where NOE has activity, it may include South-Africa.
Anyway, UK, Spain, Italy, France and Germany sounds plausible. Aside from those, NOE has office in RSA.

You're right, they mean EU. But they themselves also talk about Europe, so that is a bit confusing. I don't think the mean RSA btw, it makes no sense to include that country. It is probably those countries already mentioned and the Benelux, since they also have their own subsidiary. Also the population for those territories combined is about 335 million, so it adds up with the picture.

@Koffieboon: I forgot all about benelux. RSA would make sense for it having NOE subsidiary.

Yes, but not for calling it EU or Europe, neither does including its population match with the 335 million number.

@Koffieboon: I know, but i was pointing out why it would make sense to include RSA. Also notice how i forgot Benelux in the first place.

Ok, so we agree now that the numbers must be for the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the Benelux? If so it probably accounts for something like 80-90% of sales of the whole of Europe.

yeah the wii def has the potential to sell more than the ps2, however, it is possible that if the economic crisis continues for a long time or (God forbid) gets worse) the sales of video game consoles could drop dramatically

they probably wouldn't.  I don't know if it's true, but I read that during the great depression, cinemas thrived because people went to the movies to get the problems of daily life (which were abundant at the time) off of their minds.  Someone factcheck me on that?  If that were true, then in the same logic, people would buy more video games to get the problems of the economy off of their minds.

Listen to the webcast guys, its only from the major markets in Europe - UK/France/Germany/Spain - as well as USA and Japan.

Canada and Australia alone add a few million more PS2 and DS to the totals, as well as Mexico, Latin America, the rest of Eurasia and Africa.

PS2 has sold 2-3m+ in Australia alone. 20m sales for "rest of world" accounts to about 20% of the total sales of the big three - which is more than possible.
