Forums - Microsoft - Famitsu 360 gives Star Ocean IV 34/40

They gave Last Remnant a 38/40.
I liked that game myself, but western reviewers crucified it in the reviews. Hell even RPGamer hated it.

This is why Famitsu are untrustworthy when it comes to review.  Killer 7, a game that was suppose to have mixed opinions, got a 36/40 in Famitsu.  Also, TLR wasn't the first game to get praised by Famitsu and bashed by Western reviewers.  S-E were rightfully punished for releasing the game in a very unpolished state.

I wonder is there will be a Star Ocean 4 PS3 port.

It think both SO4 and FFvsXIII will become mulitiplatform seeing how SE keep whining about how they don't like exclusivity anymore. Plus they wouldnt mind the extra sales.

SE did not make Star Ocean. Tri-Ace did. I doubt a small company like them really want to bothered with making a PS3 port.

While it certainly possible that Star Ocean IV could be ported to PS3, its not a given. As youv'e said Tri Ace is small company so SE would likely have to get another team to handle the port. Also SO4 is running on an improved version of the Infinite Undiscovery engine and as far as I know that engine isn't multiplatform currently.

Actually, tri-Ace said that the engine was multiplatform in an interview on Gamasutra.

Great score. I'm glad I've jumped in and got myself an RPGbox 360. Can't wait for Star Ocean IV.

- The combat system is very solid and excellent. "Sign-out" move can be very difficult to time and execute, but that difficulty makes it fun and challenging.

- The combat system is so good that it almost feels like an action game. HOwever, the game still retains its core as an RPG, including the excellent Private Action System and Item Creation System.

- Because SO4 is a prequel, people do not need to have any knowledge of the previous SO games to enjoy the story.

- The action-oriented nature of combat may sound difficult, but it's very managable if you play in normal mode.

- While in combat, you can switch to any character in real-time, making strategizing very easy. Members in reserve can also be switched into battle at all times.

- Quests and dungeons still remain the same style as the previous games, which can cause a few frustrations.

- Even though SO4 doesn't feel like a totally new game compared to the previous SOs, but fans can rest assured, as the game feels very polished and complete.

- The game interface is intuitive and tutorials help a lot. The feeling of piloting a spaceship to explore the huge universe is exciting.

- The best thing about the game is the combat system that rivals great action games. It's extremely well-done and impressive. The game also gets much better as player becomes more creative in creating infinite variety of combos. "Sign-out" system can be used to dodge enemies' sudden attacks.

Seems like they enjoyed it a lot.  It seems like a great game sans some minor flaws.  The combat system alone will help the game get really good scores from Western reviewers.

Yeah, you only have to look at Eternal Sonata to see evidence of that. That game was scored far too highly by western reviewers.

Maybe the reason they score this game poorly (comparitively speaking of course) is because its an ARPG that is too 'action oriented?' I just can't fathom how this game could score lower than TLR...

Anyways still a day one for me, the praise of the action heavy combat system just re-affirm my high opinion of this game.
