Buying a PS3 at $400 may seem a lot at first but the amount of quality and support of said system is second to none. With a strong game catalogue coming in 2009 and 2010 it seems like there is little reason to not start playing B3YOND

..Because some users can't justify $400 on a system that will have very little exclusives to justify such a purchase?

As an RPG gamer (both Western and Japanese), the PS3 is B3YOND the worst choice. I can't justify shelling out that kind of scratch for 2-3 games over the system's lifetime of 'must haves' when I spent a fraction of that on my 360 for a library that dwarfs the PS3 for both East and Western RPGs.

Here's the way I look at it...As a RPG-gamer:

X360:

Blue Dragon

Tales of Vesperia

Two Worlds

Mass Effect series

Kingdom Under Fire (possibly the entire series)

Oblivion content

Fallout 3 content

Fable 2

Culdcept Saga

The Last Remnant

Infinite Undiscovery

+ Star Ocean, Venetica, Dungeon Hero, and a few others for upcoming exclusive RPGs.

Playstation 3:

Folklore

Disagaea 3

Valkyria Chroncles

White Knight Chronicles

+ Final Fantasy vsXIII

Sorry. There's no comparison there for a RPG gamer to even want to bat an eyelash in the direction of the PS3. Every system (and I mean every system, even the PSP) has a better list of exclusive RPGs. And they're all cheaper, too. I could buy a Wii + DS (the next 2 best RPG systems) for under what a PS3 costs.

And that, my dear friend, is why I won't be playing B3HIND.

well i have to admit you are a trolling/flaming mod.

i wouldnt have replied but you mentioned "oblivion content" and "fallout content" to bump up the list numbers. both of them games 1 without the extra content are availiable on ps3 anyways. the extra content shouldnt make it in the list, otherwise why dont you add eternal sonata in ps3 list because it has exclusive content.

ive took your list with obliv and fallout out of it, and also took out last remnant. as its only fair. LR will be multiplat. ive also added another rpg on 360, zoids assault.

X360:

Blue Dragon

Tales of Vesperia

Two Worlds

Mass Effect series

Zoids assault

Kingdom Under Fire (possibly the entire series)

Fable 2

Culdcept Saga

Infinite Undiscovery

+ Star Ocean, Venetica, Dungeon Hero, and a few others for upcoming exclusive RPGs.

Playstation 3:

Folklore

Disagaea 3

Valkyria Chroncles

White Knight Chronicles

Demon Souls

Cross Edge

+ Final Fantasy vsXIII

360 does indeed offer more for the rpg gamer, i dont doubt that at all. but your just trying to take a digg at ps3 when theres nothing to moan about in the 1st place. 360 has more rpg`s thats the more correct statement. for a rpg gamer the 360 would be the better choice at this time.

but a mod having a rant like that is not on.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Ps3 has no exclusives worth purchasing and it costs an arm and a leg too. no RPGs either and the worst shooters of all time. Blu-ray is dead/dying and the controller sucks. To make things worse, 3rd parties have all abandoned the system and it's in last place. Now, why would I want one?

And now your begining to play the 'lets take out a system's advantages to make the other one look better' game. I forgot quite a few X360 exclusive RPGs, so I could add those as well vs. the 2 you just added to my list.

Secondly, I don't get how a game having an extra 10-20 hours of gameplay can't be considered a benefit over the other system's version. Take it out if you feel like it, but I have my reasons for adding it. If one version provides a definite advantage in terms of content, then it's a good thing - especially given the fact they both released the same date.

As for The Last Remnant, we STILL have no data on when it's coming to the PS3. And the fact is, I've put 30 hours into TLR on my 360. You, as a PS3 owner have put 0 hours into the game. Cut it how you like, but I'm still playing TLR and a PS3 owner is not. That, in my book, is an advantage. I could of used the same rhetoric for vsXIII, but I chose not to.

I don't get how my opinion is a trolling/flamebaiting argument. The X360 has 12+ RPGs that are playable only on the 360, and not the PS3 at this very second, and the PS3 only has 3 (in the west mind you. WKC will be #4) that are unplayable on the 360. That's not opinion, that's fact.

As a RPG fan, how can you argue 12+ titles against 3-4? It wouldn't make sense that I can play thousands of hours of RPG gaming goodness vs. a few hundred.

RPGs are a bad example. They're pretty much destined to die on the 360, and move to the Wii, and somewhat less to the PS3. Microsoft isn't going to keep shovelling money into capturing the Japanese audience, unless a couple million Japanese buyers pick up a 360 for SO4.

Groucho, and given the fact this is a PS3 discussion from a X360 owner's slant, how is it a bad example?

The 360 is getting around 5-6 WRPGs in 2009. The Wii is getting 0. The PS3 is getting a fairly decent amount. I agree that JRPG support on the 360 is likely to reduce over the next year or two, but it's very (and I mean very) unlikely that it's going to shift over to the PS3 instead.

MS may not shovel money into the JRPG machine, but Sony has no money to shovel at all. I'd rather take a system that has a superb track record with the production of JRPGs and WRPGs over a system that has an atrocious track record (the PS3). The Wii wasn't in the discussion, but I do admit it'll get the lion's share of future JRPG development due to it's install base. But the X360-heavy WRPG slant will unlikely favor the Wii this generation.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

i got a ps3 back in september and i bought it for uncharted :drakes fortune, a great game. but right now its just setting and resting, and will be for a few more weeks . cause i am playing my rpg machine ( 360 ) alot right now.

I have, and its pretty fun. It just doesn't have near the library 360 has, nor as good online, or RPGs or JRPGs, or shooters. Killzone 2 looks fun though.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

@mrstickball:

If history repeats itself, most of the RPGs this generation will come from where they are popular -- namely Japan. In Japan, the Wii is King, and the PS3 is a distant second. The X360 is barely on the radar there (despite MS'es valiant attempts at capturing the Japanese audience via generating demand for exclusive 360 RPGs), and as a general rule, Japanese retail doesn't like to sell American products if they can help it, especially when there is decent competing Japanese hardware available -- thus my conclusion.

The X360 fails in Japan due to anti-american bias on the part of the retailers (read: old-school Japan), not its lineup -- sorry but its true, and it will remain so for a long time to come.  Microsoft cannot buy the Japanese consumer into their fold.  They can push, but I don't think its within their grasp for a long time to come.  RPGs are popular in Japan, and many parts of Asia.  They kinda flop in the west, as a general rule, with notable, violent, FPS/TPS-similar exceptions (WRPGs), of course.

RPGs, as a genre, are a terrible reason to not purchase a PS3... eventually.  Right now, the 360 has the lion's share, but that's destined to change.  Its inevitable that most JRPGs will end up on the Wii, and the least will be on the 360 by end-of-gen (through no fault of MS's effort, I might add -- they are bold with getting X360 RPGs, and I respect that).  Japanese publishers like to be well-regarded and well-known in Japan, as well as rich.  Sorry.

EDIT: I am making a big assumption here, that most console RPG fans consider JRPGs as a staple. PC RPG fans have enjoyed WRPGs for years, of course, so if you're coming from that environment, and JRPGs don't interest you, the 360 is a fine console (W)RPG platform choice, as you stated.

My B3YOND is currently over at someone else's house, while I play my 360 that I got back.  The guy has a GIANT high def TV.  I figured I would let him watch Blu-Ray movies.  The B3YOND plays PS2 games, which I thought would be fun, but didn't seem as fun as I thought it would be.

I personally like playing in the NOW myself.  The NOW has more games, at a lower cost, and my NOW has a bunch of games I haven't even gotten to.  I played through just about all the B3YOND stuff outside of Motorstorm 2, and Resistance 2.  I am bored being at Home on the B3YOND, although Carriage Return was kinda fun.

Now, I will be dropping off here and getting back to Lost Planet (Colonies Edition) that I got for around $10 (or less) new over the holidays.  Now this is inexpensive fun, with enough action.  Yes, the game has more snow than Helghast has dust, brown and grey, wind and lousy weather.  But the game was cheap, and fun for the money.

To really play B3YOND means to wait until next time.  But, one always lives in the now.  As was the case of the DS being the Beyond before the B3YOND.  I thought the DS would of gotten Punchout, due to the split screen.  Nope, it never happened.  Nor did a real good RTS.  Apparently the Beyond RTS became all turn-based.
