Without R&D, companies dont progress.....Microsoft knows what they are doing.
@NJ5
thats so underwhelming
I want the excitement of a new gaming platform announcement to come back!!!

I wasn't questioning the value of R&D. I was pointing out the flaws in Kotaku's logic.
Thanks for the input, Jeff.
Those guys obviously have no idea what they are talking about. R&D is the stage before developing an actual product. Windows 7 isn't in the R&D stage anymore.
How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...
M$ firing people is a shocker, and several of thoe folks are true attrition, not pink slips, buth ANY pink slips are still a shocker for the company, who has almost never fired people. I love the termed used in some overseas countries...redundancy. A company like M$ never had that, since they ALWAYS had more projects then people...not anymore. Looking at where the cuts are coming from, it's evident that some of it was punitive...you don't sack he head of a product eam, unless you're REALLY unhappy with the product they are putting out. Overall, I don't think much has changed for M$, they are just letting go of some deadweight, and using the cover of all these firing to justify it.
