Forums - Gaming - The official RE5 Demo impressions thread

I really liked the demo, especially playing coop online with my cousin. I liked running out of ammo throughout the demo, although I can see myself getting mad on the later areas. It was kinda hard too, I died a couple of times. The controls took some time getting used to but I got used to them. I will buy this game on the day it releases and I can't wait.

Benga, it's not co-op if you don't play with a friend! It's just an escort mission.

Get a friend.

You sure? I'm pretty sure the system in RE Zero was called co-op as well. But doesn't really matter how you call it, I don't like it.

I don't like playing online in this type of games either. I mean it's a horror game. Having someone to play with over a headphone would kill the tension even more for me. As an extra it's definitely nice, but not as the main game.

so whats the overall verdidct so far? il have to wait till 5th to try the ps3 demo.

Good game, dissapointing Resident Evil.

That's fair. Playing Gears 2's most tense part (and it was pretty tense) with my little brother really killed the sense of tension, because the two of us with chainsaws are essentially unstoppable in melee combat.

Still, you might want to try it with a friend anyway. You never know! Could be fun?

I like the game however.....The handguns are awful weak,i know there only 380 (i think) but were fighting starving Africans, basically bones, they should die after 2-3 shots to the chest or 1 to the head, and why is the big dude with the chainsaw a complete rip off of the one from RE4 but with updated texture...

I'm sure they'll be upgradeable in the full game.

Of course they are but still...Wasting a hole clip to drop someone isnt right, and at least they could of changed the freaking animations when the people get shot,it seems more like a port IMO,but its gonna be good none the less.

Remember, like in RE4, the enemies are infected with Las Plagas.  In addition to being what makes them so violent, this makes them much stronger.

Also, it's not like it's the first time the series has reused enemies .  Dogs, Lickers, mutated animals, anyone?  Besides, this chainsaw guy scares me much more than the one in RE4--no matter how many explosive barrels I blow up in his face, I can't kill this fiend XD

Also, my thoughts on the series' change in design:

If you take it as a continuing story, it makes perfect sense.

Resident Evil Zero and the original game were sort of isolated events--set inside buildings far removed from population, and seemingly not having much effect on the outside world.

2 and 3 started escalating the carnage, making it a public affair.

4 ratcheted up the intensity, as something new was added to the mix.

5 seems to be the boiling point, where everything completely comes to a head.  As far as pacing goes, if you take the whole series as one story, it wouldn't make sense for it to plod along slowly.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

It's a difficult line to tread. One headshot kills and the games too easy and people don't like it. More than one headshot kills and it's not realistic and people don't like it.

I'm just glad it's not me that has to try and find the happy medium.

And yeah, I'm with you on the port point. Like most effort's gone into the graphics but the engine's still the same.

It annoyed me that I was stood at the fence they climb over shooting at them. One of them had made it to the ground, I'd lined up my sights but just before I shot another one had made it down. The two couldn't accomodate the same space so the one I was aimed at just warped into space to allow the other dude in, and my shot ends up between the two of them.

That's just not "next-gen" to me. It's those kind of little details that I'd like ironed out this gen.

But I'm still gonna buy it. It's kinda a "what's best for next gen" test to me. Like I always said I didn't want just prettier versions of the games I was playing last gen. But then along came GTAIV and I wasn't sure about it anymore. And now along comes Resi 5 and I should know either way now.

Although having said that I started GTAIV again the other week and like it much more than I did when I first played it. I dunno what's happened there.

It's starting to look like Resident Evil isn't going to be as big as I thought it would be. Not that it won't be big but just doesn't seem like anybody enjoyed it.

Incorrect!
