Forums - Gaming - Bethesda Reacts To Three Major ‘Fallout 3′ Criticisms

Criticism: #1: “Fallout 3″ is just mediocre when judged as a first person shooter

Howard: Agreed.

***

Criticism #2: The ending isn’t very satisfying and much shorter than other “Fallout” endings

Howard: Based on the feedback I’ve seen, most people are pissed off that it ends, not the ‘ending’ itself. Maybe that’s one and the same, I don’t know. That’s another thing we’re changing in DLC3 [downloadable content #3, "Broken Steel"]. We really underestimated how many people would want to keep playing, so that’s probably the last time we’ll do something like that.

***

Criticism #3: V.A.T.S. is boring once you’re accurate enough to head shot everyone

Howard: Depends on what you find entertaining. I like to blow people’s heads off, so, well, it never got old for me. I agree that the ‘to hit chance’ for head shots is probably too high.

cool......but will PS3 owners get chance to not "end" the ending by some patch?

They shouldn't be charging to change the ending when it was their lack of foresight (common sense actually) that made them not realise that people would want to be able to continue playing after finishing the game. And what was the point of giving the head of the enclave and amazing laser gun if people could never ever use it?

funny stuff:
At the beginning I almost hit everytime an enemy no matter where I was aiming at. It was much harder for me when I finally reached level 15-20. (My weapon skill is at 100)

tuoyo - They're not charging for people to change the ending. They're charging for a whole new game after it ends.

Remember Shivering Isles? Knights of the Nine?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Bethesda didn't react to the biggest of Fallout 3's criticisms: Why is the Writing so Crappy?

Okay they can do that.  But if they now recognise that people want to play on after completing the game can't they correct that with a patch so that those that don't want the DLC have that option?  That would seem to me like the fair thing to do.  I am the biggest Fallout 3 fan ever so will definitely get the DLC but if I wasn't planning on doing so I would be pretty pissed off that I had to pay them more money for the opportunity to play on after finishing the game when this is a feature that there is no logical reason why it wasn't in the original game.

It wasnt meant to be judged as a first person shooter though...

I thought the DLC for Fallout 3 had you playing as a different character?  Whereas The Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine were the same character from the story mode.  Plus you could jump to and from those extra missions and play the story mode with any upgraded weapons and armor you got from those missions.

Vetter - I believe that it's the same character. In Anchorage, your playing a 'new' character in the simulation, but the weapons you get in the sim can transfer over to your normal character, AFIAK.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

what does AFIAK mean?
