Would be nice if they managed a comeback in the hardware realm, I HATED seeing them leave :(

Id love to have them be a software powerhouse again. I am not sure if I want them making hardware...I mean, hardware really doesn't matter to me anymore. When I think about it, Sega isn't really doing that badly these days.

I mean lets look at Segas competitors from back in the day (omiting nintendo for obvious reasons)

Atari - gone

Midway - life support

Acclaim - chapter 11

Capcom - alive and well

NEC - doing good but gone from gaming

Amiga - gone

3DO - went tits up in 2003 after trying software only

SNK - went out of busines, and now is back thanks to playmore

Namco - alive and well

The 2000s weren't kind to the former kings of Arcades and home consoles.

Sega is doing ok for itself, they best they can in this "loss for profit" gaming environment. I hope they are survive for a bit as I see them becoming a powerful software company once the tide calms down.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

The death of Dreamcast was due to the lose of Working Designs, they were Sega's Square back in the day. They brought the RPGs. They took forever, but when they came, they were top notch quality.

Working Designs along with Sega first party carried the company through the CD age and tough times. Square decided not to develop for Sega when Sony announced their console. It was up to Working Designs to bring over the RPG love. They were not attached by any type of promises/compensation whatsoever from Sega. They made Sega games because they loved Sega.

Working Designs left Sega because of a bad booth location at an E3. Working Designs thought they deserved a prime location at the Sega booth because of their dedication to the company and I believe they should have, they were Sega's right arm.

The death of Saturn came. Even though Working Designs decided to leave Sega to make games for Sony. They didn't want to let their fans down and finished their last Sega game, Magic Knight Rayearth, which was also the last Saturn game made in the US.

Working Designs supported both Sega CD and Saturn to the end. Lunar 2 being the Sega CD's final game.

Without eachother both companies crumbled and fell apart. Working Designs loved Sega and Sega didn't love them back when it mattered. They both went their seperate ways.

Working Designs was lost in the fold of many developers on the Playstation. Too many good developers overshadowed their efforts. When they were on Sega consoles, they were recognized for being one of the few and became loved. The company closed their doors a while back ago. Which is sad, I loved them.

Sega went on to Dreamcast without their RPG company. The system became an arcade fun house. With 3rd parties throwing them bones, but never committed to the system. No EA, Sega had to fund their own sports developer, 2K Sports, which was awesome mind you. Better than EA back then. Still, no true RPG love. They couldn't compete with the likes of Square.

Me. I'm a big Sega fan.

I'm a sega fan, had a genesis, loved saturn but never owned one, and a dreamcast, the one thing sega had that no other company did so far is have the best launch lineup ever, sega holds the throne in that department, even though sega dont make much games anymore, sega was the best game publisher ever to me, they made the most good games ever segas list blows away everybody else, capcom to me is second best of all time, then Nintendo.

Sega the best of all time.

Sniff
