Perfect Dark was a late title and was amazing

May'be Microsoft will cut Rare.

Word has been trickling out that the Entertainment and Devices Division (EDD) will receive the brunt of the mass layoff. The EDD division consists of the Zune, PC gaming and the massive Xbox division.

Yep, Rare is not what it used to be =( i miss that Rare.

The reason Rare isn't what it used to be is because they no longer get technical assistance from Nintendo. Rare minus Nintendo = meh

Even towards the end of the N64 life Rare started to lose it greatness. The pace that they released games drastically slowed down and some later titles weren't that great.

Drastically slowed down?   Titles weren't that great?

1996:
Killer Instinct

1997:
Blast Corps
Goldeneye
Diddy Kong Racing

1998:
Banjo-Kazooie

1999:

I don't think Rare has gotten worse at all. I just think they haven't gotten any better. If Viva Pinata and Kameo were N64 games they would have been welcomed with open arms I think. Competition has just gotten toughter and Rare isn't 2 steps ahead of the rest of the world any longer like the used to be. I think their output during the N64 days was greater than Nintendo could hope to achieve then, and that's a damn near impossible task to one up Nintendo on their own console.

but.. but... Nintendo is perfect i tell you!!! Rare sucks now!! Banjo racing FTL ... /sarcasm

I still wish Rare would bring out a sequel to one of my favourite games of all time. Blast corps. It was an amazing game. I can dream cant I.

OT Yeah they have lost their gloss over the past 8-10 years and I cannot see them getting it back. Oh well.

You are correct. I don't think many will contend against the notion either.

During the N64 years, Rare made 2 AAA games every year. No company has managed to do that since including themselves.
While I agree that RARE at their peak were pretty much the only guys who could slug it out with Nintendo in terms of quality over time, I really wish you hadn't said that.
Said what?  That for 5 years straight Rare managed to release 2 AAA quality titles each year and no one has been capable of that mark since?

Where's the second game in 1998 and 1996 and/or 2001?

Also, even if Rare managed it, Nintendo has not failed to do so also.
