I think a $25.00 for the aracde and $50.00 for the other two skus around September would be perfect



PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Slashing the price of Pro and Elite seems like the best idea, Arcade will bestill significantly cheaper even after PS3 price-cut, so lowering other sku's should counter any sort of bump that PS3 price cut will have. 299 $ PS3 will still be expensive compared to Xbox.

They may choose to add "value" to the Arcade, but they will definately not make it cheaper. For one thing, they're most likely losing money with each arcade sold. If you think they can make a processor like the Xenon, a GPU like the Xenos, and 512MB GDDR3 RAM, with DVD drive, built in networking, AND a nice controller like the 360s for less than $200 (heck the retailers probably want a cut too, and you have to package it, ship it, etc.), you should go start up a "laptop for every child" program, and do some great things for the world. Microsoft's Games Division net profits dropped in the hundreds of millions of dollars this Holiday season, and they were wildly successful this year, compared to the last. I think the reason is obvious.

Also, if the 360 got as cheap as a PSP, or too close to the venerable PS2, people would start to wonder "Why? Why is it so cheap compared to the Wii and PS3?" "Microsoft is generous" wouldn't be the first thing to come to the buyer's mind, I guarantee.

No drop for the 360 anytime soon (which they have stated on several occasions). They will add "value", or drop the price on the models that actually make money (Pro/Elite). Sony and Nintendo still have the pricedrop card in their respective hands... MS played it last year, and now they've got to fall back on less powerful plays.

Sony pays Nvidia...

Sony pays IBM

Microsoft pays noone.

@Bold, what do you think consumers must have thought after Sony a third off the top a little less than a year after launch? Well they obviously didn't decide against buying the PS3.

The real question they will ask is "Why is the PS3 so expensive" Not "Why is the Xbox 360 so cheap".

 

 

 

Groucho pretty much exists to spread sony pr related memes around here, so don't mind him. Lately he's hard working to convince people that MS is the poorly managed lossy corporation desesperately trying to grab marketshare.

It's a weird stance since MS EDD makes money and Sony's SCE has losses, but hey since when reality became an obstacle to a good troll.

 

Lol whatever, spinfrog.  I tell it how it is.  Care to wager some VGC $ on the 360 Arcade dropping price in 2009?

Also, if I wanted to hurt MS with my comments, wouldn't I be supporting the "there will be a price drop" theory?  Am I a MS fanboy then?

Edit - forget it. I thoucht you were saying a price drop is coming. I agree it is not. But will take a bet from anyone who says the 360 Arcade price drop this year.

Pro Gets Bundled with Viva Pinata: TIP and Banjo: N&B

Arcade gets bundled with Lego Harry Potter (09 game)

Arcade becomes $169.99, Pro becomes $249.99, Elite becomes $349.99.

All of this is October 09.

^^^ Microsoft will not drop the price. Period.

I don't believe the PS3 will drop and even if it did, it will not be a $100 drop, which is the only drop that may force Microsoft to rethink its arcade pricing.

I am willing to take bets from anyone who thinks differently and is willing to put his VGC wallet where his mouth is.

^^^ OK. I get my mistake. I thought Groucho was saying that a price cut was coming. Upon rereading I see he is saying no price drop.

Strange as it is, I actually find myself agreeing with him on something.
