Starwars Galaxies.
Nuff said.
It's just that simple.
"Sadly, the launch of the game was a different story. Stellar reviews and problems with the game itself caused a major downfall in popularity of the game."
Wait, so outstanding reviews actually contributed to the games decline in popularity?
Was it because more people bought the game because of the reviews, then left because of it's subsequent problems? (Creating a larger drop off then had it gotten poor reviews.) Or is that just a typo?

| MonstaMack said: Nothing can really stand against WoW except for maybe ever EverQuest right now which I believe still holds a few million subscribers between EQ1 and EQ2. Course it had a good 5+ million people at one point till WoW killed everything. At this point every company has to consider that if they go into the MMORPG market they stand very little chance in succeeding. Nothing is going to dethrone WoW at this point. KOTOR3/MMORPG won't last more then a few years, trust me. |
Your insane man, Everquest never had 5+ million subscribers. Not even close to that amount. Show me a link stating those numbers you pulled.
Had to change my sig to get some moderator to quit bitching about it......
It was during a trial run during the early years, most likely the time they offered free subscriptions. Right now there current rate is most likely under one million. I don't have a link but that's what I heard when I was playing UO years ago (before that died thanks to turning it into Trammel land) the most I could find link wise was over a million.

Accepting both Sony's press releases and the internet archives available today as accurate, these records show a rapid rise in subscriptions to "...more than 225,000..." on 1 November 1999. Sony announced the achievement of 300,000 subscriptions on 30 October 2000. By 2 October 2001, Sony stated that there were "...over 410,000...". On 29 July 2002, Sony announced that there were "...over 430,000..." and that for the 1st time 100,000 had played simultaneously. In preparation for the Fan Faire of 2003, Sony announced on 25 September 2003, that there were "... more than 450,000..." subscriptions.
With that single exception, from 13 March 2003 until the final reference on 14 January 2004,[8] Sony releases that contained numbers referred only to more than 430,000 subscriptions, and/or more than 118,000 simultaneous logins. This leaves the peak and current number of subscriptions for EQ to secondary sources.

yeah the game was great for the first few lvl. I bought into the hype and got the game. There were so many problem with it. Buggy, unoptimized,no end game to name a few it was fun for a little bit but got boring really fast.
Yes your right. Here is your cookie bro. You win the internet and I made a serious mistake, I admitted to it already.

It's things like this that have made Mythic refuse to allow WARs servers to be merged even though it would be for the best population wise.
Although the servers are a lot busier now so thats good.
I love WAR, i tried WoW and hated every second of the game, the community and just left, WAR is the only subscriber based game I've ever paid out for.

WraithPriests PC:I really wonder what Funcom (the makers) are up to...
They made Anarchy online (which failed pretty miserably) as well (a few years ago).
Now, they're getting a large amount of investors... Are they planning on yet another MMO?
According to the makers, they needed 600,000 players to keep playing after 1 month. Seems like that went badly...
