"What ever happened to the Shin Megami Tensei PS3 title, any rumblings from Atlus Japan at all or did they get eaten by demons?

AJ: Sadly, this too is just a rumor, but it would certainly be an exciting development. And it would certainly make me feel better about the answer to the first question in this interview."

But... it was announced.

I mean this guy is just from the American division right?

I mean Sony announced it in 05.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/651/651540p1.html

How can it go from "announced game" to "rumor".

I always thought it was just rumored.

http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q3-2005/090705a.html

Maybe the announcement was wrong or mistranslated here, but Sony has that title listed. I have no freaking clue on what to think of it anymore. It's been more than 3 years. Money is probably the issue. They did make like 3 MegaTen games on the PS2 after that "announcement."

Yeah... and the announcement happened back when we thought the PS3 was going to kick ass. (Sales wise.)

Which is why I think it was canceled... the assets are probably just in the company database incase they ever decide to go back to it.

Sony did say they have at least 2 un anounced exclusive RPGs to anounce this year. There is a strong chance that one of them might be SMT game. I hope So.

But it was announced.

I'd put the odds at unlikely at best.

Despite rave reveiws the game still isn't the biggest seller.  Nor have they ever been the most impressive technically.... and for whatever reason all anybody focus on review wise when it comes to PS360 is graphics.   If the graphics suck, goodbye review scores.

Really atlus is in a tough spot.

They could do what Nocturne did.  With the cel-shading and the unique art style and what not.  I would like to point out Tales of Vesperia which wasn't that visually impressive technically but had good use of cel-shading.  I doubt Tales games are that much more expensive to make then the SMT/Persona games are.

I'm really not a fan of Tales of Versperia's art style.

Fun game... but I think the cell shading is kinda inconsistant from the character models, the character portraits and the scenes.

Maybe it's just how the main characters looks just don't match his voice and personality at all.

The pipe smoking dog is cool though.

I don't think you can qualify SMT for PS3 as announced until we get some hard facts about the game, images, trailers, something.

Sony has some Trojan Horse surprises this year, just you watch. You will probably be gleefully shocked.

SMT PS3 will go very nicely beside WKC as the JRPGs for PS3 this year.

You can't qualify a game as announced when it's announced via Sony?

I'm not getting that logic...

clearly this game was in production and SOMETHING has happened.

I mean what, was sony lieing when they announced it?

If they were don't you think Atlus would of said "No we're not making that."

There are a lot of games on that list that never came out i believe... and keep in mind most games in production tend to die off before hand.

I think it's foolish to not think the game was at some point put on the backburner after the PS3 launched, or possible before cost wise.

I never saw any statement from them actually anouncing it. I do remember Atlus giving out the statement that they were working on a PS3 title.

If they did anounce it then thats good. Yet, then what are you fussing about? If they announced it then it is comming.

Are you trying to say they announced it and it is not comming? Then what is the point of refuting my thoughts in the first place?

I think you are exaggerating. Sometimes you seem so anti-HD that I wonder why you bothered getting a ps3. Valkyria Chronicles didn't have the best graphics out there (just excellent art style) yet it was rated generously by most reviewers. Even GTAIV's graphics suck IMO and it's gotten the best reviews to date. I don't know where you got this idea from.

GTA games are GTA games.  I mean GTA had numereous actual techinical problems and pop ins and it still got 10 out of 10s.  It's a bit different.

VC art style was unique... and actaully very well done.

I don't see them chaning up the persona art style because that's well the signature... and it leads to angry fans... and when your a small fan lead title that's bad.

You can call me anti-HD all you want, but in reality i'm just talking about real concerns.  Any bias you may see likely are just a refletion of your own.

Also not only do i have a PS3.  I've got a 360 now too.

I still don't think reviewers are as graphics-biased as you imply even though I personally don't use game website reviews to decide my purchases and couldn't care less if the next persona was ps2 or ps3. I'll get it eitherway.

If the next persona/SMT game did magically become a ps3 game, I'm sure Atlus can do wonders without resorting to KZ2 graphics. DDS1&2 are some of the best looking ps2 games and they're quite dated now so I'm sure Atlus can innovate one way or another.

I posted a link where Sony announced it... in this thread.

In 2005.... with a lot of other games.

Since then we've heard nothing.... and a lot of those games have never come.

The fact that there was a SMT game in production for PS3 and we havent' heard from it in 3 years makes me think it's not coming... and makes the PS3 seem like the least likely console.

Most likely being PS2 still or PSP in my opinion.

360 is... well Persona does sell well in the states... but unless it was funded i doubt Atlus would do this.  Though I think they would jump at the chance of having the game funded...

While Wii... eh I wouldn't release it on the Wii if i was a small company like Atlus.  Maybe a port of P4 to test the waters, or a re-remake of a previous shin megami game.

Personally my favorites are the original SMT games that were originally on the SNES. (well and NES but i never played those.) later ported to the PS1.  Even more "pokemon like".

You should look into the PS1 remakes if you ever have the cash to burn or see them at a used games store.

They announced it in Famitsu if you look at some of the links above. This reminds me of that Devil May Cry PSP game. Capcom announced it, but we have info on it. No videos, images, etc.

Bring on PERSONA 5! PS3 EXCLUSIVE BABY!!!

i never really payed any attention to the SMT games regretably until P3. That game stole my heart. Then I played Persona 4, out did 3, and stole the number 3 spot in my top RPG franchises of all time(FF, Kingdom Hearts, SMT:Persona).

I was thinking now that I might go back and try Nocturne, which seems to be really popular.

I would just love a new Persona or a SMT game for PS3!

This is what word of mouth can do to a game years after it comes out.  The demand became so high that Atlus had to do a reprint of the game last year even though the game came out over 4 years ago.  That's partially why the series has been gaining some serious steam recently with Persona 3 and 4.

Well with the fall of SquareEnix, off their JRPG throne, many are looking for a replacement.

I have fallen so in love with Persona series. I am currently obsessed with completing my collection of the "Nine Devine Angels" in Persona 4. I have Angel,ArchAngel, Power, Principality, Dominion, Virtue, etc. I am only missing 3,2,and 1. Then I come to find out yesterday that there is ANOTHER order, "The Big Four" angels that stand about the Nine such as Gabriel, Micheal, etc. This game gives me the feeling of Pokemon with collecting Persona, a feeling of being in high school again, while boldly going where no RPG has gone before(Such as the hilarious sexual mishaps of Kanji, especially during the "Club" part of the game). My roommate hates RPGs yet he will actually sit there and watch me play P4 like its a TV show. I LOVE IT!!!

This is too funny. What games have Square Enix actually made this generation. The answer is only The Last Remnant which was developed by the Saga team. The game series that people really like (FF and KH), those teams respective games have not come out yet.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I just don't expect Shin Megami Tensei to be on the PS3 exclusively.

I don't!
