Forums - Gaming - Hardest games you could not beat

NES games were defiantly the toughest. Id like to see the so called hardcore gamer who moans about the wii having no traditional games complete simons quest or TMNT. Games these days tend to have difficulty levels to prolong the longevity of the game, e.g Halo (great game tho).

Anyway my list is:
1. Adventures of link
Got up to the last dungeon, i just cant do it. I almost always run out of lives before i can even get to the temple and on the odd occasion i do im on my last legs and die very quickly.

2. Probotector (Contra)
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right b, a, start. nuff said.

3. Castlevania
This game brought tears to my eyes as a child. Recently i've got further than i ever have before thanks to the wii's VC saving your progress. Im on stage 15.

4. Simons Quest
The angry video game nerd's review of this sums it up.

5. TMNT
Again the angry video game nerd got it spot on.

6. Wreckin' Crew
Great game imo but one i never fully completed.

7. Rollergames
Very difficult scrolling beat em up.

8. Rush n' Attack
What is it with Konami games on the NES?

9. Double Dragon
I played the sequel before this one and just found it so much more difficult. Unlocking the moves was a cool idea but i found it to frustrating. Probably one that wasn't so much difficult as tedious, for me anyway.

10. Shadow Warriors (Ninja Gaiden)
Got to the last boss, died, smashed pad.

11. Gun.Smoke
Love this game, got to the last level on numerous occasions but never completed.

12 & 13. Bart VS The Space Mutants / VS The World.
In retrospect these games were quite poor but like most others im a huge simpsons fan. Controls were awful compared to mario etc.

14. Batman
Awesome gfx for the NES, very dark and gritty and bloody hard with it.

15. R.C Pro AM
Very touch racer, one of Rare's better game imo. I got up to one level were the computer opponents just whizz round faster than you can go, it was impossible. Anyone else get that far?

Thats it, theres plenty of tough games that i did manage to complete like Gradius and Punch-Out but these 15 are the ones that beat me. BTW did anyone else find Macho Man tougher than iron mike/mr dream in Punch Out?

The NES owns all consoles when it comes to difficult games, ive never struggled as much with games since. I tough it was the fact that is was to do with my age but going back to these games proved that theory wrong.

1.  Adventures of Link:  If you knew where all the hidden e-xtra lives where, and where fully powered up, beating this game was pretty manageable.

2.  I loved contra, and had memorized exactly where every bad guy would pop out on every level.  I actually beat the game without dying and with out using any of the speciality guns.  (the only pick up I would grab was the rapid fire to make the pea shooter shoot faster)

3.  Castlevania was insanely hard, it takes many, many continues (usually) and repeated attempts at slaying dracula.  Very frustrating, but extremely rewarding when you finally beat it.  If you really want a challenge play it through the second time and the game is even harder!

4.  Simon's Quest with the assistance with a nerd coucil and a collection of Nintendo Power Magazines was beatable.

5.  TMNT; that was hard but I did manage to beat that game; certainly not without the agony and frustration that came with it though.  lol

9.  Double Dragon.  I forgot about that one.  Very hard, repeated attempts, much failure, finally did beat it though.  Many of those old NES games took try, try, try, again methods.  Memorization, a lot of skill, with some luck on your side.

12.  I forgot about that bart vs space mutants.  Neat game.  You found items in the game like bottle rockets, and then had to use them to solve puzzles and advace.  Hard platformer, I never could beat it either.

15.  Some of these games you mentioned I did beat, but I have to tip my hat to you on how far you got on R.C. Pro AM.  I don't remember getting that far.

Here's one for you all out there:   E.T.  for atarii.  I know the game sucked beyond imagination, but does anybody know anyone who actually beat it?  All I can remember doing was walking around aimlessly eating Resee's Pieces.

I have a friend, its a girl, she bought kingdomhearts. She couldnt get passed the beginning before sora is in the island because she didnt know how to open a door...

Me? I beat every game I touch.

IGN has a top 10 list of hardest games (not definitive or anything but still an interesting read).

http://pc.ign.com/articles/774/774907p1.html

Doggone right it's not definitive.  Half the games on the list just require more skill and focus than most other games.  And their inclusion of Contra in the list (yes, it can be beaten without the 30 man code) completely discredits them.

Double Dragon 1 for NES is another good addition though.  I beat DD2 AND DD3 before I beat that one.  Cheap-arsed Abobos!

Have you tried battletoads for the NES?

Or some of these others that have been mentioned?

Pokemon Puzzle league on N64. Team rocket was randomly godly on the last difficulty setting. I just couldn't do it.

Yeah, I finally have a sig.

Battletoads and Punch Out for the NES

Contra 3 for the SNES.

Mike Tyson's Punch out was definately challenging. If you could manage to play the first two rounds flawlessly, you could K.O. Mike in round two. If you let it go to the third round Mike would become very unpredictable in his patterns and punches, and would usually pummel you really good.

I can remember kids in my middle school spreading a rumor that if you used the Konami code a man mario would come out and shoot Tyson, and you would win by K.O. The rumor was valid for some time, as no one was able to even get to Tyson for a while to disprove this theory. I was glad to debunk the rumor myself, but still took some time before I could master Tyson and beat the game.

There was a hidden more challenging mode to play in this game, also, don't know how many people realize that or not.

Get the real ending on Sonic the Hedgehog then.  After that, give Battletoads a try. Beat Castlevania II: Simon's Quest without a walkthrough (good luck).  After that just for kicks, give Rambo for the NES a whirl.  Finally, beat King's Quest III and IV without a walkthrough.

Come back and say that again after you've beaten all those games.

the hardest games for me were all on NES.

Punchout, Castlevania.

Is it me or are games easier now than they were in the good old days?
