Lunar: Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue

I like them both more than any FF game.

Definitely Chrono Trigger. Despite being from Japan, it's almost like a real RPG. =P

My sentiments exactly. The thread title implies that Final Fantasy titles are a cut above the rest. That hasn't been case in quite some time. Arguably it was the case.

Final Fantasy is the John Madden Football of RPGs. It's gets the most media coverage, it gets well reviewed, but its rarely the best in its genre.

Looks like you all have hit on some of my favorites already so I'll list few that haven't been named.

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue (Sega CD...didn't care for the Saturn/PS1 version)
Phantasy Star IV (Genesis)

Kingdom Hearts, Persona series, Jeanne D'arc,Dark Cloud series, Pokemon........in that order.

I'm in the same boat as most people here, the best RPG games are not the FF games, so it's wrong to exclude them. Some of the FF games are great, but there are better ones out there. For different gameplay types, games like Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Earthbound are all better than any FF game.

Chrono Trigger, XenoGears, Vagrant Story, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Panzer Dragoon Saga, PokeMon, Kingdom Hearts 2, Grandia 1, in that order...

Tales of Symphonia. How can it be that I am the first one mentioning it, on the second page of the thread?

FF still has the most SOLID rpg series where u r never met with gutt wrenching disappointment. Cant say that about many other series who have lasted as long.

Cause he asked for the best... >_>
