Forums - Gaming - when p34/xbox720 come out, would nintendo even need to release a wii 2?

i don't really think so, because

if the competition released a motion controller for their systems, nintendo would probably not have to worry too much. remember, it's not just the motion controls that have garnered massive sales, it's software that uses it well in the end, and nintendo should have that well covered. even if nintendo felt threatened, they could just release another perihperal for the wii to compete, which would be even better because of the wii's huge user base by then. also, since nintendo will be so well known, the competition would have to work very hard for the same recognition, and i just don't think they could do it by just copying nintendo. they would have to change the game like nintendo did this gen for nintendo to even care.

thoughts?

come try out the computer game i've been working on for my high school senior project, titled sling ball. http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=47568

HD TV adoption should be much bigger at that time, so it would probably be wise for Nintendo to roll out a Wii HD with a Wiimote with integrated Motion+, fully backward compitable with Wii, and old controllers.

.

Depends on what control scheme they went with, the price they relased at and the software they went with.

If they stick to the same pattern of just more powerful traditional systems then no, Nitnendo would be fine with keeping the Wii on the market for a few more years, if on the other hand they relase systems that truly compete with Wii in terms of control and software and price, then Nintendo may have to release a new system within a year or two, but it wouldn't just be a Wii 2, it would be something that would innovate beyond what the Wii does.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Nintendo will move at their own pace, as they have for some time

Probably they could launch the next console and it can co-exist with the wii.

Just like they have plan to do it with the DSL-DSi

need to??? no

4 ≈ One

probably if wii looses momentum its likely.

it's easier to sell mario universe, zelda: beats ganon, wii: everything or whatever they are called on a new console with new features.

generally second games for the same titles, sell less the second time they hit the same console.

but if not they will continue selling the wii as they did to the nes, snes, gameboy, and DS.

The system will be in the controller!
