i'd be happy with 2013.

i also want the consoles to have a staggered release schedule. i don't want to pump out lots of money at the same time to have the consoles i want.

I want console generations to be as short as possible.
I'm the kind of gamer who purchase every console at launch. As a PC gamer, I'm a staunch supporter of innovation.

I don't want to buy a new console before 4 or 5 years at least. Upgrade my PC is expensive enough

In terms of Price I can see Sony trying to reach the middle ground between MS and Ninty. Probably in the 299-399 range as they're probably going to keep the cell and blu-ray tech

Are you guys serious? The world of video games is growing, and everything is changing. This generation games have went mainstream to a consumer that is njot going to want to take a plunge every 5 - 6 years. We continue to ask for bigger and better games, and we have got to accept that massive undertakings, are not going to be able to be pumped out every 2 or 3 years. It is differant times in the industry.

This generation nees to last for a very long time, allowing developers to get back into profit, and benifit from the large instal bases. We need to give developers like Square, Team Ico, Remedy, Polyphony Digital, Kojima Productions, and the like time to really take advantage of the consoles out on the market right now. If we start pushing them to move to new consoles that need new tools and new knowlegde, at the same rate we have in the past, we are going to see more devs bite the dust. We need to let these developers make a good 3 to 4 games for PS3 and 360, and that means consoles that last anywhere from 8 - 12 years.

I don't understand why some people are now all good with the idea of a new console coming out that is nothing more than they have, as long as it is cheap. The GC - Wii kind of leaps will put me out of the game faster than Mike Tyson could KO people back in his prime. Never in my life did I imagine a time when people would say I don't want better products. Just give me the same thing I already have in a new case, and slightly over price it.

Casual boom + 300W GPUs + need of profit on consoles = nex gen only 2012-2013

i want this gen to last AT LEAST another 5-10 years. after that...

all three consoles(or more or less, if you think so) could afford blu-ray drives, hardrives with lots of space, with with online distribution only or used heavily(gamespot could go out of business once and for all!). graphics could make a big leap, but wouldn't need to really.

If PC gets too far ahead they'll pull the consumers (most frequent gamers and many casual) with them.

I think around 2011 would be a good time to reveal some ideas for the next gen, but not release them until end of 2013-2014.

PS2 was released in 2000, and PS3 in 2006. I guess you could say the PS2's life cycle was over after 6 years, but why are people still buying it 9 years later then? This generation hasnt reached anywhere near its peak, and we're already halfway through the PS2's "life cycle". Theres obviously more than 6 years worth in PS3 and 360.
