Forums - Sony - Uncharted 2 confirmed to be a 4rth person shooter/adventure game!!!!!!!!!!!

It's derived from the ways it's used in language. ie. first person is 'I did this', second person is 'you did this', third person is 'he/she did this'.

In games, you're either seeing it through the playable character's eyes (so it's first person, as the character is 'I') or you can see the person (in which they're a 'he/she' you're viewing).

A second person equivalent would probably be something like where the main character in the game is actually you yourself.

The terms 'first-person' and 'third-person' are literary terms.

First-person means 'from the character's perspective', while third-person means 'being told what the character is doing'.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

@megaman79 : First person is the main character, Second person would be any other character (would be pretty weird and actually I'm not sure you can really make a game where you're not the main character), Third person is someone out of the game.
It's the same when you write a book. If you use "I" to describe the main character, it's first person and you're the main character.
If you use "you", it's second person (this one is definitely weird) and you're part of the story though not the main character
And if you use "he/she", it's third person and you're out of the story.

1st person - me, I, aka the direct affect on oneself
2nd person - you, the person I am interacting with.
3rd person - a person overseeing the interaction from afar, like a narrator
4th person - wtf?

i dont get 2nd person, im drunk so excuse the stupid question but thats bullshit.

I read books, 2nd person is still third person isnt it

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I would say that a game in second person would be a game where you follow the main character around but as someone else.

I suppose turn based strategy type games are 2nd person in a way.

How about Wii Sports/Fit? Your the avatar and you control yourself in the real world so your both 3rd person and 1st person coz ur moving.

Well actually no. I've thought about it, and there's definitely some books written with the second person. There's even a name for it : "The books where you are the hero".

Cool... I've always wanted to be the barrel.
