Forums - Sales - Aaron Greenberg Responds To Statements Made By Kaz Hirai : PS3 is dead

I kind of agree with Greenberg that ps3 is pretty much dead now.

There is no chance for ps3 to catch up with xbox 360

Weird :)

Didn't he just state that he didn't want to respond to it, because one should not do so, and focus on one's own console? :)

Weird how the wind changes each and every single day

Learn to read, he response  because the reporter ask him to.

OP:
While he said a thing almost true, PS3 could never catch up in USA, WW is a different thing, he shouldn't be so sure, so he fails as his answer is neither fish nor flesh, it's half rational, half outlandish and not as flamboyant as Hirai. This exposes him and removes any doubt he could have been answering in a serious tone to an excessive statement as an elegant form of humour, he wasn't, he fell for it and answered really seriously to the provocation. This answer had to be done by Ballmer, we'd have had a much more amusing show.

Greenberg the Tool speaks again. I think his comments will bring down M$.

Well, his comment is not as bad as the following -

"Rumble is last gen "

"You need to get 2nd job (to afford the PS3)"

"Next gen doesn't start until we said so"

Not to mention all the recent one in the other LOL thread.

Oh and WTF is M$?

Sigh.

Greenberg is seriously pissing me off. Even SONY PR was never THIS bad! He's made some ten different anti-Sony statements in the last week or so. Yes, very nice, you had a price cut, the 360 is outselling the PS3. Give yourself a pat on the back for some great marketing.

What you don't do is say that Sony and the PS3 are doomed, Microsoft are innovation gods (actually Nintendo are), and you certainly don't say all of this together when your best case scenario is second place.

Sure, what Kaz Hirai said wasn't particularly intelligent, but it was more of a defence than an attack. What seems to be happening is that Greenberg is repeatedly throwing insults at Sony, while Sony PR responds, trying to bash the other two companies as little as possible.

Definately agree with the bolded.

although this response was less loony than Kaz' outburst it still seems to me like childish slap-fighting.

I sincerely thought that both these two guys would have grown out of diapers by now.

Sadly, it looks like I was mistaken.

Proud Sony Rear Admiral

His maths is terrible.

He should stick to just grinning smugly.

Microsoft responds to Sony's recent Xbox 360 criticisms
by Stevie Smith - Jan 21 2009, 05:20

While resisting the temptation to (once again) lapse into tongue-in-cheek hyperbole surrounding the ‘handbags at dawn’ exchanges that Microsoft and Sony frequently engage in when it comes to their gaming hardware, we thought you may like to know Microsoft has responded to Sony’s latest bout of corporate posturing.

Specifically, comments made this week by Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai have suggested the Xbox 360 “lacks longevity” while the PlayStation 3 will undoubtedly emerge victorious over its console competition.

Setting aside the fact that Hirai conveniently dismissed the market-leading Nintendo Wii as Sony doesn’t consider it a direct competitor, the focused attack on Microsoft’s hardware has predictably sparked a response from the Redmond-based software titan.

That response came from Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg, group product manager for the Xbox 360, who said to Torrance Davis at thebitbag.com that Hirai’s comments are indicative of “an old hardware company that’s comfortable with its market position,” and that Sony’s “complacent attitude is out of touch with where the industry and consumer is today.”

Greenberg also took the opportunity to outline that hardware specifications won’t be the only contributing factor in marking this console generation’s winner – the hugely popular but comparatively underpowered Nintendo Wii is clear proof of that. According to Greenberg, the ability to “out-innovate” in terms of online capabilities and software strength will be the main defining factors.

“This is the kind of stuff that’s in our DNA,” said the Xbox 360 executive, “and frankly it moves the console war onto our home court.”

Greenberg ended Microsoft’s response by voicing his confidence regarding the Xbox 360’s ability to outsell the PlayStation 3 across the whole of the current generation. It will do this by giving gamers more innovation while working to build “the best and broadest games library” and evolving entertainment experiences through the console’s “leading online network.”

“I can’t imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us,” he said. “In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn’t close the gap until 2014.”

1. Even the Nintendo Wii has a web brower... the 360 is a bit behind the Wii and PS3 in online capabilities. The DNA is incomplete it seems.

2. The old hardware company thing makes no sense since Microsoft has been saying similar crap for years.

3. His math sucks, see few posts above for details, 2010 is all Sony would need and Sony is still likely to pass M$ by 2011.

Slight problem with your theory my friend and that is 360 is still outselling the PS3 50k-100k per week, PS3 HAS to start selling more for your theory to work, which it isn't. The PS3 needs a miracle to regain the 8m units or so in US. Considering it sold 7m in 3 holidays seasons would lead me to believe it won't have overtaken the 360 by 2010.
