Eternal Sonata PS3 has not sold 0.6m
WKC has not sold 400-500k in Japan

You cant even prove your point without twisting the info.

0.6=0.06

that was a typo, I was not twisting anything.

WKC has sold more then Metal Gear Solid in it's premiere weeks, which was around 400k+. This is according to Japanese reports across the inter net. At this current point it can only go up, hence 400-500k.

Where are these reports? All VGC has is WKC selling about 40% of what MGS4 did week one in Japan and sales were on par with MGS4 on weeks 2 and 3.

It was an article from N4G.com that stated that WKC had finally passed MGS4's sales from it's first week. MGS4 sold 400k in its first week. It was not in WKC's first week but it is a goal mark. It is effectively PS3's 3rd best selling game on the system in Japan.

It's your story bud so prove it. Where's my link? My evidence is sitting at this website and this website says WKC isn't even close to getting to MGS4's opening week.

That story was up there...

However Famitsu and Mediacrate disagreed with it.

Also it said that WKC pushed PS3 above what MGS did...

once again Fam and Media disagreed.

Basically it was a made up article.

So the XBox360 exclusive Lost Odyssey outsold all PS3-JRPGs combined so far. NICE!

And Star Ocean will be huge.

JRPGs sell better on PS3 because Japanese install base of PS3 is 3 to 4 times larger than 360 install base in Japan. JRPGs sell around 50 to 60% of their ltd in Japan region alone. JRPGs sell mainly to Japanese gamers.

I cosign this, as well as scotties point that all of the JRPG sales this gen have sucked. Comparing these is like asking who's the best in the special olympics.

It is a sad day when Sony is considered successful for arguably (to be very kind) doing a better job of moving JRPGs than Microsoft.

Discrimination is not allowed in the forums. That includes looking down on people with a handicap. You're warned.

I can't tell you how much respect I have for the people attending at the special olympics.

Now the ones for the PS3 so far....

Valkyria Chronicles: 0.34 million
Disgaea 3: 0.20million
Eternal Sonata:0.06million
Enchanted Arms: 0.16million

What does this Data tell us?

This data tells us that over 2 years after the PS3 launched there's 1 good JRPG (which is a SRPG) on the system. The brand Playstation as THE place to be for J-games is totally gone.

I honestly don't understand how you can make a thread titled "PS3: JRPG success" and then come with this list. The crying about how games would fare so much better if they were on PS3 and how developers are stupid to make games for 360 makes it even sadder, cause fact is that 360's JRPG library is a lot better than PS3's.

as now i doubt that because they are getting dragon quest X and thats only huge in japan.

Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

Fragile, Tales of Ten, Kizuna, Arc Rise Fantasia, Valhalla Knights, Musramasa: Demon Blade, Dynamic Slash, FF: Crystal Bearers, oh and indeed Dragon Quest X. And that's only what's announced so far. As far as consoles go it's clear that Wii will be the king, ironically for the same reason you say devs shouldn't make games for 360: Japanese userbase.

The title is missinterpreted by some of you. look at it this way, "PS3:Potential JRPG Success". I left out the Potential because I thought it might make the title too long where people would not read it.I did not title this "PS3 IS a JRPG success!"

What it is saying exactly is that these systems can AT LEAST sell JRPGs on par yet the PS3 just doesn't seem to be getting any. The Japanese refuse to accept the 360 as their go to JRPG console so why exactly are they putting majority of JRPGs on that system first?

And why must people continue bringing up the Wii in a discussion that is obviously not about the Wii? or DS and PSP? I do not feel that console gamers will be particularily satisfied if all future JRPGs are strictly for the Wii or handheld systems. That would bode never getting FFXIII and Versus XIII quality games. While Wii and handheld RPGs are great, some of us want more substance then that.

@forevercloud: I get you now. A clearer thread title definitely would have helped...

About your Wii comment: I reacted to jo21, who basically said Wii only has 1 JRPG in the making.

CLOUD!!!!!!

The only thing I think that may be holding back the Japanese devs is PS3 development. It's costly and tougher, there's an advantage of putting these games on 360. Eventually, one of the 360's JRPGs will sell BIG (probably Star Ocean) and that should do good for Microsoft. However, I really hope Sony gets some good ones though, it's still a HUGE reason I am so fond of the Playstation Brand: JRPGs! WKC/FFXIII/FF VersusXIII can't come soon enough!

A pleasure always CGI ^^

I know all about the claims that it is because of development cost. Yet I would argue this....

If majority JRPGs sell best in Japan, majority of those JRPG fans own PS3s, PS3 holds the largest instal base in Japan over 360 (and no one say anything about the Wii, this is not about the Wii, that is just getting annoying!) why shouldn't these JRPGs be on the PS3?

Some say cost of development

Yet wouldn't the triple the fanbase for JRPGs on the PS3 outweigh that of cheaper development costs on 360. If you put the game on the 360 in japan, it won't sell nearly as well as one on the PS3. This equates to

(Cheaper development costs of 360=less sales)=(Higher develoment costs of PS3=More sales)

THey come off equal to each other in the end. So basically what they should be doing is making some of these RPGs Multiplat(in there supposed belief that MP equals more sales). Or we should see at least a few more exclusive JRPGs for PS3, more then we have now most definitely.

no, going to ps3 would be as dumbass as going to 360. Clearly WII, DS and PSP are the way forward.

None of the games on the list have even broken even, yet DQ swords has sold better than all of those games in japan and is a lame spin-off.
