Forums - Sony - PS3: JRPG success!

Only thing I can see here is that HD JRPGs would benefit a lot from being multiplatform. Depending on how the wave of JRPGs do that are hitting the Wii over the next year or so, some developers might have to ask themselves is there really any point in forking out relatively large development costs for so few sales when they might possibly be able to get a similar amount for smaller costs.

JRPGs as a genre have hardly changed over the years (infact i've seen nothing on PS3/360 that couldn't have been done on a PS2). Japan has gone handheld mad. These are a couple good reasons to stick to the DS and PSP along with cheaper development.

Playing: InFamous, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga, Modern Warfare 2

ps3 only have one JRPG WKC.

selling better than all 360 rpg in japan. and yet to be released outside it.

also you are counting all the 360 vs ps3 which its are less titles and many niche srpg.

now if you add the sales of ff13 ff13v in japan likely 2009 360 future doesn't look so bright.

Eternal Sonata and Enchanted Arms no longer count? Ok. Seems weird to me but I guess there is a logic to it somewhere.

Cloud, you've cherrypicked. That said, both consoles have terrible jrpg sales. Terrible. I'm ashamed for my favorite genre right now. Is it time developers move on from this oh so sacred of genre?

In my opinion, Sony is to blame. They haven't supported the genre at all. At least Microsoft has tried its little green moneygrubbing heart out.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Now the ones for the PS3 so far....

Valkyria Chronicles: 0.34 million
Disgaea 3: 0.20million
Eternal Sonata:0.06million
Enchanted Arms: 0.16million

What does this Data tell us?

This data tells us that over 2 years after the PS3 launched there's 1 good JRPG (which is a SRPG) on the system. The brand Playstation as THE place to be for J-games is totally gone.

I honestly don't understand how you can make a thread titled "PS3: JRPG success" and then come with this list. The crying about how games would fare so much better if they were on PS3 and how developers are stupid to make games for 360 makes it even sadder, cause fact is that 360's JRPG library is a lot better than PS3's.

as now i doubt that because they are getting dragon quest X and thats only huge in japan.

Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

Fragile, Tales of Ten, Kizuna, Arc Rise Fantasia, Valhalla Knights, Musramasa: Demon Blade, Dynamic Slash, FF: Crystal Bearers, oh and indeed Dragon Quest X. And that's only what's announced so far. As far as consoles go it's clear that Wii will be the king, ironically for the same reason you say devs shouldn't make games for 360: Japanese userbase.

You are making a lot assumptions in this post.

Unless you expect 360 games to have 50% attach rate, they won't be selling 500k in Japan. WKC will not outsell LO, I'm pretty sure of it.

You think it can't do 380k, from now in Japan, plus in NA and EU when it's released there? You're crazy

Selling 380k more won't put it above LO.

Someone in this thread said that Famitsu or Media Create said WKC was at 500k. LO is at 880k

Edit: Now if you're playing semantics, and are saying 500k + 380k does not put WKC over 880k, then I guess you're right, but you know what I mean lol

500K+ that doesn't sound right.

They had 270K after 2 weeks.

Unless it had a huge surge all of a sudden.  It's been out what?  3 weeks?  I doubt it sold 230K week 3 after selling 70K week 2.

The Famitsu and Mediacrate numbers are inline with VGchartz as always.

Famitsu doens't have the game at 500k though. The person who posted it was using an article that did not use the real numbers for both. The VGChartz database is extremely reliable for high profile Japanese games because the software sales are published on a weekly basis. The game is a bit over 300k.

they are over year old ports. and enchanted arms sold better on the ps3.

WKC is second party so it doesn't count.

white knight's american/european launch shall give us some answers. there is absolutely no excuse for this one. its a hardcore jrpg, its not a port, and its from level-5.
