Forums - Sales - By how much will Killzone 2 outsell Halo 3 ODST?

I think someone is confusing hype (people hype games that will be awesome and recieve great scores, not great sales) with sales predictions. K2 is hyped to hell because it will be an increadible shooter and will probably recieve very high ratings, but no one is saying it will outsell Halo (fanboys are the exception, not the norm) which shows even by how many PS3 owners and K2 hypers are saying ODST will outsell the game. I believe that K2 will do 4 million LTD. I believe ODST will do 5-6 million LTD. However, I expect K2 to be the better game (read: for me) and I doubt I'll be buying ODST because honestly Halo 3 was one of my biggest dissapointments of this gen. It offered neat features with the gameplay recorder and Forge (I never use any) but felt like a regression for the series in general and had what was to me one of the most lackluster single player campaigns I've played (more important then MP to me). Personally, It will be difficult to keep me away from COD6 long enough to buy this and maybe that will hurt sales some? COD4 afterall has sold more copies then Halo 3 and this isn't even Halo 4 but an expansion and it's hard to believe that everyone who bought Halo 3 will buy the expansion.

ok i know your aiming that at me let me explain myself bout hype

A game with NO hype get no sales(good reviews or not) example valkyrie chronicles a game with lil to no hype with great reviews another example prince of persia no hype horrible sales....so believe me when i tell u the first halo sold off hype and not its reviews....and of course the 2nd and 3rd sold cuz of its name and it being a reliable game to buy

so HYPE has ALOT to do with sales ALOT......kz2 hype is off the scales so if it got 1/10 from ign or others it will sell cuz of the hype that surrounds it.....

Currently waiting on : killzone 2 and everything else after it..day one purchase baby

What an odd way to ask the question. Instead of answering your question, I am going to give you some advice. Stop expecting such high sales from PS3 games. You will only be disapointed when they fail to meet your outrageous expectations.

I'm gonna say 4-5 million for Killzone 2, and 6-8 million for Halo 3: ODST.

wasn't the first killzone crappy???? How come people are expecting 5 millions for it????

Oh well.....

K2 should probably fall behind halo... i mean, it's HALO!!!!!!!

Probably not that much...probably a LOT. I don't know. Since i thought that the first KZ had a really bad reputation, i thought the 2nd wouldnt sell that much... but if people are saying its going to pass 3 millions.... there's a reason for that

I look at it as the ps3's Gears of War.  It's a shooter (probably the most popular genre out there), with awesome graphics, and all the over the top machoism that teenagers and young adult males eat up. It won't sell as much as Gears of War given the install base disparity between the ps3 and 360 (plus a large portion of the ps3's install base resides in Japan), but it will sell very well.  I expect it to have great legs similar to Call of Duty 4.

It'll probably be Sony's best selling first party title since GT4.  Only MotorStorm may stay above it, and that's only because MotorStorm was Sony's most heavily bundled game since GT3, if not ever.

It won't sell as much as Gears of War given the install base disparity between the ps3 and 360 ((3)plus a large portion of the ps3's install base resides in Japan), but it will sell very well.  (4)I expect it to have great legs similar to Call of Duty 4.

(1)So we can expect the same percentage sells???? I mean, not the same number, but percentage in comparison with the # of ps3 sales???

(2) xD LOL!!!!

(3)2.79M out of 19.71M don't seem to large for me :s

(4)Really???? Damn i guess is a really BIG one.

(5) Well, this game is supposed to be bundled too, right?

But i mean, if people already played the first one, what would encourage them to buy the 2nd???

I guess time will tell

1. No.  Gears of War had in insane attach ratio like 36% at the time of its release.  No game could hope to match that, unless it released in a similar situation to Gears of War (the first "true" next-gen game released on a tiny ~5 million install base).

2. It's true! :P

3. Yeah, but that's still a larger portion of the ps3's fanbase than the 360's fanbase that we know probably won't be into shooters.

4. Call of Duty 4 certainly didn't sell because of the success of Call of Duty 3.  It sold because it was a damn good game, and as a result had great word of mouth long after release.

5. Yeah, but probably not near to the exent of MotorStorm.  MotorStorm was bundled with the 80gb ps3 for months in NA, and at the time the 80b ps3 made up 60% of the ps3's sales in NA.  And that's not including the European bundles.  The only other game that has been bundled in NA since has been MGS4, and only for a couple of months.

And I don't see why the first would really impact the sale of the sequel.  Most hardcore gamers would see that the sequel is obviously a much superior game, and most of your madden/gta guys (last gen casuals, as I like to call them, lol), probably wouldn't have even known the game was bad, and it shouldn't effect their opinion of the sequel.  And if they did, they probably don't remember much from a four year old game.

Plus, you're acting like everybody played the first, lol.

Bullshit. Either you are out of your mind or do not know the definition of hype. (Definition: http://www.answers.com/hype)

  1. Excessive publicity and the ensuing commotion: the hype surrounding the murder trial.
  2. Exaggerated or extravagant claims made especially in advertising or promotional material: “It is pure hype, a gigantic PR job” (Saturday Review).
  3. An advertising or promotional ploy: “Some restaurant owners in town are cooking up a $75,000 hype to promote New York as ‘Restaurant City, U.S.A.’” (New York).
  4. Something deliberately misleading; a deception: [He] says that there isn't any energy crisis at all, that it's all a hype, to maintain outrageous profits for the oil companies” (Joel Oppenheimer).

I think you're mistaking anticipation with hype in Halos case. It did sell off of reviews. That's like saying Half Life sold because of hype. Halo, like HL, sould millions because it was a revolutionary acheivement in gaming. How many games nowadays take concepts halo introduced?
