Forums - Nintendo - Wii Fanboys Only: Wii about to sell 50 million and beat the SNES

Wii Play, Mario Party 8, Boom Blox, Wii Music, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, Carnival Games, and a few games being released this year will all be remembered for far longer than RE4 or Okami on the Wii for better and for worse. Why you would think comparing a long dead system to one not halfway through its lifespan is in anyway useful I don't know though. It proves nothing.

My point was that Snes had to work hard to sell 50 million by delivering amazing games. Wii can go without a single new game for 6 months and it will still sell out.

Just saying Snes got where it is (~50 million in sales) by delivering games where Wii got there with its good looks...

This idea of 'deserving' something' doesn't really fly. While I do agree the SNES is one of the cornerstones of our industry and laid the foundation for many of the games we have today. If (when) Wii outsells it, then so be it.

It won't take away any of the greatness the SNES accomplished, just like the N64 not selling up to par with the SNES doesn't mean it was a failure of a system (maybe in the sense that it failed to sell as much as its predecessors but gamers loved the system). Some of the best games ever created on that system as well.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Im really surprised by the lack of critical thinking here.

So you people are saying that the Nsync and Backtreet boys records that outsold the White album by the Beatles is just as deserving of the success?

The problem with you solitude is that according to your standards the wii doesn't "deserve" to win because it doesn't has "the greatness" of SNES which is dumb and strictly subjective. Maybe you should erase the wii from your "proud owner of" because it gives you another image.

and the Nsync/beatles comparison? so according to you the SNES are the Beatles or what? Gimme a break!

I'm just as surprised as you are my friend.

Yep. Snes was the best of the best...aka the Beatles.

Wii is a pretty boy with a clean image using tricks and gimmics to sells the most units possible with least amount of great songs (software)...aka a boy band.

And I am a proud wii owner. Look at it towering over everything in my console hirarchy.

You call that being proud? then I was right.

You're a hypocrite.

Is that PC hooked up to the TV o_O

"After you win, son, I feel like going for a ride on your bike, haha." ~Doc Louis (Punch Out Wii)

Wrong. That's what people think it does, and that is why developers think shovelware is good enough.

What Nintendo has actually done is make songs for everybody instead of songs for just one demographic.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

I'm very conflicted. The SNES is my fav system. It had the best of Nintendo 1st party and incredible 3rd party support. The Wii so far has only brougt the 1st party and 3rd parties are doing nothing but pissing money away on expensive HD games. It's a shame, the Wii is a great and innovative console... but it doesnt deserve to dethrone the SNES, at least not yet.
