Forums - Sony - Tsk, Tsk: A look at Sony's marketing campaigns compared to the rivals!

The last two commercials are a little better, but they still imply a lonesome message.

Even the one where people are just walking on the streets, it doesn't imply any significant interaction. Both look very cool, but just looking cool is so yesterday. We're not at a time anymore where catering to these feelings will be as successful.

A true growing community needs to promote and imply closeness in some level, Sony hasn't grasped that.

If I had seen that baby comercial before I got my PS3, I wouldn't have. Its that bad!

Actually, I don't like any PS3 advertisement. Luckily for me I haven't seen any.

Tease.

What the hell? They think if you don't show people in the commercial it is bad? "Black onyx" was good because it showed off all the great games. Entertainment is worse because it doesn't. It's not the other way around.

I have to say: Sony is artsy... too bad not many people understand art...

Ehm.. that's is basic advertising.. Black onyx is only effective for gamers (small group) All the other people have no idea what's about... Entertainment is for a wider audicience who only see hip & happy people! And also want to be hip and happy! so you buy the product..  so Marketing wise Entertainment is way better...

I believe Sony started out early with a message of, "We are Sony, bow to our power and BE BLOWN AWAY!"  The message was to show POWER. It was supposed to work, but didn't. The Octopus one is pretty good though. It is still, SONY = POWER. It does show the games in the process. The Playstation Network one after that one is pretty good, but maybe a bit too late. If you happen to be the top console, and then remind people you are, and do it as it is fun and sociable, it can work. You are the safe choice.

The problem with Sony is that they had been the leader, so they can't come off as being the choice of a rebel and underdog. It is a tough spot for them to be in. And they can't do, "We are Sony and Playstation is here", because the other two have outsold it and are viable choices. And they can't compete on price, and they can't compete on a new way to play either.

Anyone have any idea on what they can run as an effective ad that makes the PS3 compelling, outside of showing some exclusive games, and hoping they catch on?

I LOVE THE black onyx commercial

its the one that made me go buy a ps3.

also listen to saliva :P

I really doubt you needed a commercial to convince you to buy a PS3.

Sony's marketing department should be the first to get the axe in their upcoming staff cuts. They've always been weird.

Never argue with idiots
They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

PS: There may be a bit of nudity in the video, and it is a girl lol And yes, it's a PlayStation 3 commercial. It was only shown in the UK.

Uh, no. Nobody will buy a PS3 because they see happy people. Nobody bought a Wii because there were old people in the commercials. It's stupid logic.
