Also, for those who think that Starcraft is so incredibly better than the AOE series. AOE 2 is at 92% and Starcraft is at 93% on GameRankings.

GameRanking means very little when you consider how each have stood the test of time. Starcraft, up until recently, was still widely played online. It is also mentioned in several 'best games of all time' lists because of that very reason.

Undoubtedly, both are great games, but Starcraft stuck around longer for a reason.

That's because there was no sequel to steal away Starcraft's fans.  :P

Age fans are now divided between Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology (where I fall), and Age of Empires III.  The Age of Empires series (not including Mythology, from what I understand), has thus far sold over 20 million units.

The grand majority of SC players transitioned to WC3. And the reason there was no sequel, is because great games can last longer before being replaced. That's why blizzard is pretty much the only company... ever... that can release a success of epic proportions are wait a decade for its next installment. Better to do things better than everyone else, and then take your time and do it again...

SC2 is going to become the defacto RTS game for tournaments as soon as it release and you can expect the huge majority of the good RTS players to switch to it...
For those wanting to play on the pro circuit there won't even be a choice. They will have to master SC2...

Sales-wise Starcraft 2 will easy dominate too, even if Halo Wars does well in NA, SC2 will crush it in Asia. Korea is Blizzard's land and Blizzard has started to expand heavilly in China with Wow and will reap the dividends there with SC2...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Anyone heard of Korea?
Starcraft > Halo

I sincerely doubt that Halo Wars, a console RTS, will put up numbers close to any decent PC RTS (incl. those made by Ensemble), let alone Starcraft II.

Bah! Excuses

But I would think that WCIII shared much of the same fanbase as SC although it came out years afterward (just like different iterations of AOE). Still, people play Starcraft much more than they do Warcraft III (assumption, but I think it's a pretty safe one).

Anyone who thinks ensemble can beat blizzard at rts is nuts.

Anyone who thinks halo wars will be better than starcraft 2 is nuts.

Anyone who thinks halo wars will outsell starcraft 2 is nuts.

Seriously starcraft is the best RTS ever made and the definition of the genre.  I can fire it up right now and play for 10 hours.

AOE and other ensemble games never had that spark.

This is a crazy topic.

I disagree, IMO  AoE and AoM was just as much fun Starcraft and Warcraft.  As for outselling it, I do not see it happening.  Starcraft II will sell loads, not to mention it is selling in 3 parts.

The best RTS ever made is Total Annihilation, Starcraft comes in second/third position depending on how you consider Warcraft 3...

Now I wouldn't diminish Halo Wars to much.. it is not a RTS on console but a console-RTS with a big brand name and a consequent install base.

Figures will be very interesting indeed !

PS: Note that 360 fans have the decency not to literally skins this forum with HW signature, ads, video, posts, review, silly blogs comments ... unlike the KZ2 support group...

All that means is that they're not hyped for it. If it offends you so much, don't go into the Sony forum. Are you telling me that if Halo Wars was an FPS, it wouldn't be getting double the hype that Killzone 2 gets?

Yes, I haven't seen that phenomena (in big scale) for any 360 games. And I go where I want, that is the goal of the forum

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

A quick login shows me that far more people are playing WCIII and expansion then they are SC and expasion. Also WCIII>SC.

Ah, well I'm certainly wrong on that.

I always hated the online for WCIII because of the heroes and really hadn't payed much attention to it the past few years. I agree with you that in single player WCIII>SC, but I was always preferred SCs multiplayer.

Anyhow, I think Ive taken this further off-topic than necessary. Carry on.

Blizzard is the best developer in the game, so I don't think Halo Wars will be as good as SCII, but I DO believe that Halo Wars will be the best RTS on a console...ever, and I DO believe it will sell very well, even tho not on the level of SC, which will sell like 1-2 million in South Korea alone, upon release, if not more.

plz dont compare them. No rts can touch starcraft. Halo wars will however be the rts king on consoles.
