Forums - Gaming - When it comes to controllers everyone copies nintendo.

does it matter? does it affect your enjoyment of playing video games?

No all sony did was say omg they have a analogue stick lets beat em at their own game and add two!

Dreamcast had analogue triggers? N64 had a Z trigger again an improvement of what is there.

Power Pad and Power Glove? Not made by Nintendo and not copied as standard now are they..

Also rumble in the N64 is standard now also

And don't talk about PC gaming here, this is console controller progressing and how the other companies like to incorporate Nintendo's control ideas into their own and then expand upon them (i don't see that as bad but its the facts)

Now they've gone one handed, or split, each hand having a motion sensor, IR pointer capabilities, on board memory for taking settings with you, a speaker and an expansion port, just as the N64 had an expansion port

THREAD FULL OF WIN

I know Nintendo made the d-pad, shoulder buttons, analog sticks, force feedback, motion control, and touch screens standard (probably my fourth or fifth post ever on this site). The OP is painting the picture that nobody else has done anything. That's not true.

So no one else has done something that made it the standard? Is that what you're getting at?

did making this thread make you feel better?

Okay so how many possible designs could there be? Did the PS3 have to use the boomerang controller to not be considered copying?

No he is pointing out that everybody, meaning the console manufacturers, copy Nintendo's controller innovations and if  I look at the 360 controller...

- D-Pad

- Shoulder buttons (two of which are improved upon)

- Analog sticks

- Force Feedback

- Wireless

What has Microsoft innovated? I mean even the coloured buttons remind me of the SNES

It's the same with Sony, in fact Sony are probably worse having hardly changed the SNES 2.0 controler in something like 15 years.

It's sad really...

Sony did create the L3 and R3 buttons. Microsoft gave us the "Home" button. Not exactly revolutionary, but still innovations that have become expected.

Accrding to Sony apparently there is only one.. Seriously take a look at Nintendo's controllers, they're all large jumps ahead of each other and all the controllers after them follow that trend

I mean even the GameCube controller was very different to the others, look at its button layout, it was also easily the most comfortable of last generation.. easily

^^^^The Wavebird may be my favorite controller ever but that same button layout and teeny tiny d-pad made some games (fighting games mostly) unplayable. There's a reason why there are PS2 to Gamecube controller adapters and not vice versa.

Is it really a big deal? They all contributed positively to the gaming industry and helped made games better, so I think it's good that other companies are using the same things.
