Forums - Gaming - Nintendo haven't sold out, some people have just moved on

I'm pleased to see that you didn't disappoint! Actually, you did a bit (I was looking forward to "Wii ___ games are all the same series!", but you can't win 'em all). I liked the part about the DS (it counts because I like it!); it goes exactly with what I thought you would say. The part about a game not counting as a new IP because I didn't play it was a bit...odd...though.

Anyhow, glad to see that even after your edits I've met your completely meaningless, wholly arbitrary, and thoroughly subjective criteria. Am I to take it, then, that you will retract your original statement, and return to the old (but admittedly completely valid) "I don't like the Wii because it doesn't appeal to me" standard?

Well considering the fact that what I mentioned is true, you got off lucky. And so, I will begin my list war, to make your crappy attempts at winning arbitrary Hell, I'll even add another catagory

Ten Original IP's Published By microsoft on their next gen. platform that are good and are games (see what I did there?)

1. Gears of war

2. Lost odyssey

3. Mass Effect

4. Viva Pinata

5. Crackdown

6. Lips

7. Kameo: Elements of Power

8. Blue Dragon

9. overlord

10. Test Drive Unlimited

Don't you agree this just makes your list... I don't know...  you can think of it. This wholelly supports my point that nintendo rely's solely of sequels. Hell, sony even stepped it up this gen! There is no comparison! I mean, you struggled to name 10 valid ones, where I can name 10 just like that!

1. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

2. Resistance: Fall of Man

3. LittleBigPlanet

4. Heavenly Sword

5. motorstorm

6. folklore

7. Eye of judgement

8. Afrika

9. white knight cronicles

10. Everyday shooter

I got these without even trying (hell, I even didn't name something you haven't not heard of). I dislike the wii because of nintendo's nonexistant 'seal of quality' and nintendo rarely lets you see anything you haven't seen before on it. The HD consoles on the other hand, spawn great first  party series. With more to come (Heavy rain, alan wake, so on and so forth) It's not only that the wii doesn't appeal to me.. Back in the ps2 days, you got many great news series. And the wii, although outpacing the ps2, will not spawn 1/2 of what it did. Quote me on it, if you wish. All of this is completely valid. You almost failed to name 10 original IP's nintendo has created, while I easily named 10 published on both HD consoles. I think this speaks volumes.

this thread is the perfect example of one of nintendo's main problems. i mean we have one poster going 'i dont like nintendo they havnt given me f -zero or star fox and a reinvention of an old IP' the next poster complains that they just do the same things over and over again.' and dont get me started on the people who say theyll only buy a wii if they get another zelda and mario game.

nintendo has a massive backlog of IP to try anf get through as well getting out games for this casual audience. they have 2 different audiences on 2 different machines to cater for and only a limited number of devs. fail to build new IPs, there not innovative, failure to build all there old IPs and there selling out. its like the ultimate balancing act and so far the havnt done too badly. theve got out major IPs like mario kart and metrot as well as a couple of minor ones like batallion wars and fire emblem

But here's the problem, that hasn't happened yet. Sure, CoD 5 will come out soon... but in reality, it's only CoD 4. (treyarch made CoD 3 which is vastly not as good as the infinity ward made games)

Wow, you will just keep moving the goal posts won't you. Why not just say Nintendo isn't for you anymore, rather than make complaints about franchises that are loved today and are always wanted by the huge Fan base. Nintendo hasn't sold out, you just like other things now. Simple!

Nintendo should cater to the player, not the player catering to nintendo. It's alright to have old IP's. But the fact is you have to offer new things as well, for the people who have gotton tired of the same old, same old.

All I want from Nintendo are good story driven new Ips. Mario Zelda and Metroid are all fine. Wii Sports Music, Fit, Play I do not care but please give me a new Ip in between these, somethin along the lines of Gheist Pikmin, not Animal Crossing.

Am I bored enough to get into a list warz, especially when I've already disproven your statement, and you're trying to engage me in a purely subjective area? Nope! But I will make snarky comments!

Like something that appeals to people in addition to adolescent males? I guess.

Hey Mr. Apple! Meet Mr. Orange!

Once again, recall your original statement: "(Nintendo) only keep making installments in games they made 20 years ago" What other developers do has zero to do with that. And, again, this ignores the DS.

I dislike the wii because of nintendo's nonexistant 'seal of quality'

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Seal_of_Quality

"When the Official Nintendo Seal of Quality was used, the meaning of the seal was explained as follows:

"This official seal is your assurance that Nintendo has approved the quality of this product. Always look for this seal when buying games and accessories to ensure complete compatibility with your [name of Nintendo system]."

This meant the cartridge worked in the named hardware; it had nothing to do with the quality of the software."

I struggle with how to respond here. Do I point out the obvious fact that the Wii has far and away the more innovative games this generation, an opinion echoed by Valve's Gabe Newell and the legendary Will Wright (amongst many other notables)? Or do I point out that nothing in either of your lists is particularly new, and that they're just shinier versions of what we've had before?

Meh. I'm getting bored with you already, so you choose.

Heavy Rain's promising, even though I fear it'll fail to follow through on its promise. Apart from that, you'd be surprised by how little interest I have in those lineups.

Hey! Maybe I can take my valid, subjective opinion, and make it say "HD consoles suck lol!!1!" You seem to be enjoying something similar, so there's gotta be some fun in it, right?

Despite there being zero indications that it'll actually happen I, too, expect this Wii fad to die any day now.

So it does, my friend, so it does.

But I don't think it's anything you want to hear...

I have to ask the question, why is releasing a game with characters that have been in an old game a bad thing?

Mario & Sonic - "uses Mario.... and Sonic, 2 old IP characters"

Yeah, so what? how does that suddenly mean you are still playing Super Mario Bros. on the NES?

Well Nintendo have done new things ever since the Ds came out.  I do not care what anyone says, a game like wii sports, a, nintendogs and brain age can be played by a anyone (including gamers) and thoroughly enjoyed, i can acclaim to this because i have been a gamer since the snes days, and i thorougly enjoy them to this day, now i can only speak for myself, but thats is evidence enough for me.

The thing is, i would totally understand your complaint of nintendo (and infact the whole industry) if every one was doing this expansion thing and just catering to the new nont traditiona gamers (i prefare saying that instaed of causals) but it is only Nintendo, you have 2 other consoles, a whole industry , handhelds, and over 15 years woth of consoles that have been catering soley to guys like you, so my question is whats the beef? Why do you also need Nintendo catering to only you. Is it not enough?

Do you know people like you held games like mario and duckhunt in total contempt when the Nes came out, they called those games non games and not complexed enough, but those games where the beginings and foundation of most of the games we enjoy today, we all come from that generation, its time to pass the torch. That does not mean our type of gaming will die, it just means when the new gen gaming becomes more stable and solid, it will add to the development of the type of games we enjoy, and take it further.

You say Nintendo need to cater to the player and not the other way, well i would argue Nintendo are catering to the player that has been ignored for so many years, and they are seeing success from it, that is not selling out at all.

I ask again do we not have enough already catering to us. Maybe you will not agree with me or see where i am comming from, but i gurentee give it a few years and you will see things in a new light, when gameing has gone to new levels.

I like this point.

Get another console if you don't like the stuff on the Wii, and maybe get a Wii for the (supposedly) few games that do appeal to you if you want, or not, whatever.

The you can leave the rest of us Wii gamers alone to continue expanding the record breaking attach ratio of the console.

You know.  I haven't been a member of your big argument 'list war' thing going on here.  But hasn't anyone noticed the major difference between the two?  'Microsoft' Published titles are made by third parties and just funded by Microsoft and most Nintendo produced titles are either made by Nintendo EAD/Nintendo owned company or secondary publisher exclusively working on Wii.

Yes, Nintendo has a lot of sequels...but why is that bad?  Especially since they're BETTER than their GC versions on the whole, as is Nintendos attention to the Wii.  I don't see how Nintendo paying more attention to its core franchises instead of giving them to a third party (Star Fox Adventures/F-Zero GX/Legend of Zelda Four Swords) is now a negative thing.

Nintendo was relying on Third Parties to make the original IPs by making a system that got a huge userbase, and not trying to 'encourage' them by publishing all their titles for them.  If that's what makes the 360 better, than okay I guess....
