To avoid clutter within the forums I felt this thread was a necessity. If you have any speculations of when you think the price will drop or if you have an article please post it here.


Overview

1. We already have too many threads talking about when a price drop will happen or when you think it will happen. If it doesn't have a solid source of when the price will actually drop, post it here. It's a rumor until a real source picks up on it. How many times can we say the same thing over and over in these threads?


2. If the price drop is going to happen, feel free to start a separate thread so everyone can see and be in full aware that the drop will actually happen. If you are just speculating, please just post it here rather than just spamming the forum with unnecessary threads. If I do recall there is a rule here that says we should avoid duplicating threads.


3. A price drop is a good thing. We all want the price to go down so more people run out and buy PS3's. Please post opinions on price drops in here as well.

price drop won't happen in april. that's for sure except sony find some miracle solution for ps3 production costs

I don't expect the price to drop anytime soon. Maybe by Christmas? IDK, but I do say a drop needs to happen sooner or later to get those extra sales in for the console.

Definitely not by September. If my prediction for Christmas is incorrect I'll say we will have one by the time FF13 is released.

price drop will happen when sony makes a cheaper ps3 unit. its utterly pointless to drop as it is further loosing on each console sold.

Barring any fire sales, I think it's inevitable that the PS3's price will only be lowered when it doesn't cause the gaming division to be unprofitable, as Sony has said to investors about a year ago.

There is some doubt about when that will happen (it depends on exchange rates among other things), but I would say not before October.

Price drop in September. Random Guess #1.

I think the price drop announcement will probably be in the summer. Summer sounds more like a reasonable time to make a price cut.

$50 price drop in the summer, and if the RSX and Cell is at 45 nm then another $50 price cut at christmas and possibly a slim version.
