So he finally realized that Sony couldn't have a price cut that early and tried to cover it up eh?....nice

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Does anyone else think Sony might have contacted him and asked him to retract his statement? What he has said, thanks to Yahoo spreading it, could severely hurt Sony regardless of whether or not there is a price cut coming. Millions of people have now seen "The PS3 is getting a price cut!" as if it were solid fact (whether or not it is), and I highly, highly doubt that's what Pachter's intentions were. In fact, considering the predictions he has made I'd say he was hoping for the opposite effect.

Why am I the first to post this?

You do not have the right to never be offended.

That's one of three possibilities (none of which necessarily excludes the others). The other two are:

2) He made his prediction before the estimates on Sony's losses were leaked last week. He realized that would at the least postpone a price cut, but didn't want to admit he spoke too soon.

3) He's just a giant douche.

Don't blame Patcher.  The fault lies in online news organizations like Yahoo blowing this out of proportion.  Imagine if we hung on to every prediction that some posters make here on VGCha- . . .

He was just speculating.

I was expecting a mid year price drop...probably sometime between E3 and Madden in the Americas and maybe between Easter and Leipzig in Europe. Japan...it would just need to be sometime before FFXIII.

This has to be a new low. And considering it's Pachter in question, we really have a winner in limbo.

@ChirichiriMuyo: I don't know whether it's Sony (which i doubt), Pachter figuring the thing out himself or his superiors, but the prediction spreading outside gaming media to investors have propably been the primary reason.

What i do agree with Pachter, is that Sony will cut the price as soon as it can, but it's not to be expected in a short while.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

@TheSource: Yeah, but Sonys current economic situation isn't giving Sony much space into that direction. Even the reconstructuring takes time to have effect. Basically selling studios could make the pricecut possible.

^^ That's why Pachter is an ass. Starting trouble for a company, that as a whole, has got way too much already.

This was like 2 days after all these Forbes financial yr doomsday threads. I know its his business to give his opinion but it was lousy bloody timing.
