Forums - Sales - NA Sales UP! -- Boring days BEGIN!

Other than the DS things look fine to me.

Around the Network

Its probably the KZ 2 hype that is keeping the PS3 pretty much afloat this time around and I approve of that.

If you go all over the internets, you will see confessions of hardcore gamers saying I picked up a PS3 today or Man it is now time to get one, etc.

The next step is the casual, middle gaming crowd.

I agree with others saying the PS3 had a drop that is A-typical. The X360 consistently outsold the PS3 2:1 in Nov-Dec, and now it's 10:7. Very strange, and I think that they'll either get fixed, or NPD with verify overtracking in January.

But time will tell. It's not big enough of a deal to cry about it unless VGC randomly begins to overtrack the PS3 on a consistent (2-3 month) basis.

huh... read what I wrote. I unlike the people arguing for the PS3 am not a PS3 fanboy. Just using some logic here.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

i like these low number weeks that way the 360 doesn't outsell ps3 by much

Only 50k this week

Ps3 holding on strong with only a 30k diff in NA to a console that is half the price that is impressive

Wonder how many of those 100k sold were arcades something to ponder....

bigjon's explanation makes very much sense, although I still believe stealth adjusting of numbers (because of recent overtracking) mite be in effect.

party girls!!! Thats my fiance on the right! lol ; )

I might change it back after a while, I cant find myself in threads as easy now... lol.

Ok for the sake of everyone here look

october- (first full month after pricecut)
360- 450k
PS3- 300k

December-
360- 1600k
PS3- 740k

The PS3 recieved a boost from october to december of 246%
The 360 recieved a boost of 355%

now, even if the 360 come out a bit higher in the end, the PS3 could have less % drops.

jeez people, use math before you accuse someone of not knowing how to.

Now do that for the Wii and PSP which saw a similar % drop this week.

Jon - But you must look at seasonal trends before arguing what you just said.

Feel free to look at the 360 in Japan. It flies in the face of your argument. It's entirely effected by seasonality, despite the marketshare. It's seeing very similar drops to the PS3 and Wii, despite a much smaller userbase than the PS3 in America.

Feel free to look at the same week in 2008. The X360 had a similar sales base as the PS3 does this week, but it's drop was about 3 times higher for the same week. Even the PS3 last year suffered a higher drop.

So I believe your argument is without merit. Just because it had a smaller % increase from Oct-Dec does not mean that it should have a significantly smaller drop coming out of Christmas. Should it drop slightly less? Sure. But the volume that we're seeing is Atypical.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Maybe people are waiting for the DSi to come out before buying one.

Nintendo still doomed?
