weekly sales gap between ps3 and 360 is getting smaller, congrats to microsoft for making a tunaround with price cut.

but overall i have to admit that ps3 weekly sales are very admirable considering the price of the machine and consumer worries about spending.

sales gap will be 20k - 40k higher than ps3 imo as it pans out, but 360 may get good boost from so4 release in japan.

what was this week last year sales?

I read the smaller than expected gap as a silent correction. VGC overtracked the 360 in Dec by a little (70K units or so) and is not compensating for it.

Nothing much to read from it. Withing a couple of weeks we'll get to a steady state of 50%-70% gap for the 360 in the Americas, similarly to October 2008.



Prediction made on 11/1/2008:

Q4 2008: 27M xbox LTD, 20M PS3 LTD . 2009 sales: 11M xbox,  9M PS3

It will be better for MS to widen the ps360 gap as big as possible by having another price cut of xbox 360 ( $50 cuts ) soon.

last year first 6 month, ps3 is lead over xbox360 but not that much

so it is good to see 360 have lead over ps3.

a smaller gap is still a gap. as long as the 360 is selling more than the PS3 then the overall difference is still widening. you should hope for some miracles this year.

It doesn't make sense that the PS3 match the sales from the previous year after the holidays when during the holidays it was down by ~15% YOY. Hmm, maybe its the post christmas sales clearing excess PS3 stock in Europe combined with the roughly 10-15k residual boost from WKC in Japan thats doing it maybe?

 

Actually you're completely wrong, only America improved!

Let's look at it per territory (last year vs this year respectively):

Others -> 107k to 98k (a decrease year-on-year)

NA -> 56k to 72k (an increase year-on-year)

Japan -> 36k to 29k (a decrease year-on-year)

 

Maybe americans have finally seen the hidden Power of C3LL. :P

Looks like Vg chartz is off on their numbers this week. NPD has confirmed that in America it's 2:1 and it should stay that way if not increase for the time being. Either 360 actually sold 140K or Ps3 did 50K. I'll guess will have to wait and see.

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
