| The said: I'd love to revisit these threads about the gap when GOW3, GT5, FF13, Uncharted 2 and any other major hit in 2010 are all out at the same time with the PS3 at $300. |
You mean just like LBP, DMC, GTA4, MGS4, [fill in other big game] did in 2008?
When will you people realize PS3 needs a lot more than just a couple arbitrarily big games? Those titles only help PS1&2 win because it happened so early in the lifecycle for the machine. PS3's days of being saved by a big name title are over.
It needs to continue its game selection as it is already doing well and match that with big price breaks. Unfortunately the price breaks won't be big since Sony as a whole is losing too much money already.
I expected zero dollars off last year and said that at best $50 off will come this year. $350 PS3 even with GT5 and FF13 won't put it into the stratosphere. It will increase its sales volume, sure, but 360 will just match the price drop and will still remain at least at the same weekly sales as the PS3.
At this point, the only hope Sony has for PS3 to get 2nd is for LTD sales due to MS killing off 360 prematurely, which won't happen anyways since they now own all of the hardware specs and will keep selling the 360 even after the neXtBox is out.
I agree with the overall summation of the OP, the current standings are done.
1. Wii ~150m
2. 360 ~46
3. PS3 ~44
However, unlike last gen, all three will do well financially as the disparity between 1st and 2/3 will be closer. Wii will not have 75% marketshare unless it sells well over 200m since PS360 will combine for around 90m.
