The best person in a FF game so far has been Auron from FFX, one of the only people in the games that looks like a guy.

Thats what Im having a huge problem with, ItsaMii.
Back in the day, FF characters weren't corny, feminine characters. Cecil friggin' bombed an entire city for a crystal, and saw lots and lots of people die. Should he look like a girl?
The Final Fantasy series fails because it makes men too girly. As much as I loved FFXII Vaan was FAR too feminine. What is it with these games noawadays?
Outside of that, looks interesting. I wonder how homosexual they're going to turn Locke, Edgar and the rest of the cast from FF6?

==> + 1 for Mrstickball
Even the Cecil portrait that u can see in the first post is a lot more MATURE than Vaan ...

Time to Work !

I'm not big on these character models either.  It especially obhters me because FFIV is my second favorite FF game.  However, I'll probably need to buy the game anyway because they are adding back in a lot of the original script that was left out of the SNES version due to cartridge size limits.

I hope they don't screw up the sprites for Chrono Trigger and FFVI when they finally remake them.

@Claude and witeoutking
Ok guys lets examine FF series.

FF4
Cecil - uses a helmet for a long time, when he becomes a Paladin his face looks a bit delicate. Even so I think the serene and delicate face reflects his new personality and not his feminine side
Kain - no face, but I think he have a lot of scars behind the helmet
Tellah - a old man with facial hair
Yang - muscular and bald. you could say he is gay in Cho Aniki standards, but not feminine
Edward - feminine and frail, but would look as manly as Auron near Vaan or Squall
Palom - he is a kid
Cid - beard and that is all
Edge - ladies man

FF5
Bartz - average boy
Galluf - as feminine as Yangus on DQ8

FF6
Locke - delicate looks, I would say he looks more like a noble than a pretty boy
Gau - weird, yet not feminine
Cyan - looks like a outlaw and has a porn magazine secret item in the JP version
Umaro - manliest beast ever
Gogo - no face
Sabin - a fighter and very manly
Edgar - ladies man
Mog - cute, but not feminine (can you really tell the difference between moggles?)
Shadow - dare to say anything and he slashes your throat
Setzer - looks a little like Locke, but his personality (ladies man) enforces my nobleman look theory
Strago - a old man

So the grades
FF4- 2/8 75% testosterone
FF5 - 100% manly, but your party is 75% girls
FF6 - 2/11 - 82% - 90% straight (considering that apart from their looks they score a lot with the chicks)

Now take another look at the Neo-Cecil. Save the picture and edit it so that his faces in on Rosa`s body (take a good look at the face and breasts). What do you think? It looks like Rosa`s older and sexier sister. It is not even a feminine man like most recent Castlevania games. It is a woman`s face in a character that is male in the game description. I do not care about the artists fetishes about men and women, but I do not like this artwork into a game that I care about.

Current FF games feature hyper-feminine males, why can't prior ones? Also, have you never seen Yoshitaka Amano's art style. Don't feed me this crap that they were never girly men when all we ever saw of them was 8-16-bit sprites.

Need I remind anyone in favor of this new direction of something rather important?

BADASS:

BADASS II: THE BALLAD (This one's for the ladies)

Number one looks like he would slit your throat without hesitation.  Number two looks like a saint . . . who would split you in half like Voltron [if you were evil] without hesitation.

The new and improved Cecil (now with MORE DIMENSIONS!) looks like a pansy, who would like to invite you to his sweet 16 at the Castle AUUUGH!  (Grail shaped beacon indeed!)

You can tell quite a lot from an 8-16-bit sprite.  Thanks to D-FENS for showing us that.

"Current FF games feature hyper-feminine males, why can't prior ones?" Um, maybe because this is one of the reasons that current FF games suck compared to past FF games?  Believe me, the VERY LAST THING that I want is for Square to make FFIV anything at all like more current FF games.  I don't care whose art style it is, if it doesn't appeal to me then it doesn't appeal to me.  FFIV is badass.  Cecil is badass, Kain is badass, Edge is badass, Golbez is extremely badass.  The game is completely full of badass badassery, and it is one badass experience.

THEY LOOK LIKE ALIENS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD.  ALIENS WHICH DO NOT LOOK BADASS AT ALL!

The original Cecil was actually pretty feminine in his official artwork... that may not be how we imagined him when we were playing the game, but it seems that may have been the developer's intentions.  (Keep in mind I'm not happy about this either, just showing the other side of the argument).

Well that was my point. The only reason people didn't have a problem with him being even more feminine than Rosa was because you couldn't really tell anything with those pudgy sprites. His DS design is actually pretty faithful now that I look at it. I don't have a problem with the 3D designs. I'm actually looking forward to this because FF4 has a lot that could (and should) be improved on.

Amano was excellent as a CONCEPT artist, as far as a graphic artist, not so much. I, for one, am happy the originals had to stray so far from his art, which, while cool, really were too ethereal for the nuts and bolts of gameplay. (Yeah, they look great posing, but moving them around a gameworld, having a matching environment, they're just too light and airy.)

Besides, that Amano concept of Cecil looks more like an 80's rock lead singer, whereas, the DS looks like a fawning little namby-pamby.
