Err 2007 up until November was terrible...

$600 price vs $400 price...

Is anyone actually forgetting that?

it hold up nicely for a 400$ console, after a year.

now if we compare 360 sales at the 400$ price point. >_>

Most of the year the PS3 was above $600 in 2007... It was also selling extremely poorly. 2008 set the standard and should be used as a baseline for sales, not 2007.

Lets be positive... Price cut or not lets hope the trend continues and we see the following sales this year

Wii - 16.2 M (60%)
360 - 4.88 M (3%)
PS3 - 4.95 M (40%)

More realistically, we could look at the most recent trend (the December one) and estimate 3.23 million for 2009, before taking any price cuts into account.

Great Sony PR spin. So 2008 was a 40% improvement upon 2007.

40% doesn't mean anything because In 2007 the ps3 was getting outsold by the gameboy advance.
Enough said.

I feel dirty reading that article, and the author should be ashamed of themselves for the blatant lack of context. The increase really is a testament to how poorly the PS3 performed in its first year. Also for the record it wasn't just the price that hurt the console in the first year. A sub par launch lineup, a sub par library, atrocious marketing, and plain bad press all conspired in part to drive down sales. The first year was an unmitigated disaster, but the second year actually had some successes, and some mistakes rectified.

And it's only going to keep going up up and up!

I see it more like "Last year I was in a motorized wheelchair and this year I have a regular wheelchair. I'm getting better!" That doesn't necessarily mean next year we move to crutches.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Check out first week of January sales last year vs this year for ps3. I have a feeling we won't be reading a ps3 article describing growth next year same time...or the other 2 consoles for that matter.

The xbox 360 sold 1.1 million and 520k in december/november of 2006 when the pro was 399$ . As for the "no price drop in 2008" , that's a silly arguement when talking about yoy comparisons since the ps3 cost 599$ in the first six months of 2007 and 499$ in the next four months of 2007 . For the 2 months that the ps3 actually had no price drop between 2007 and 2008 ( november , december ) its sales dropped substantially

Price cut will defently bring the average up more!!
