Forums - Sony - MS hints at decline in third-party PS3 support

Exclusives just dont make sense anymore for 3rd parties. For example COD4, sold much better on 360 but 4 million PS3 sales simply cannot be ignored. Once again COD 5 where the PS3 has 2 million sales(?).

Of course making a COD exclusive to any system doesn't make sense, but not all third party games sell like COD, in fact do any?! very few.

When Microsoft offers these third party devs a lot of money it makes sense. especially if it out weighs what they could potentially make on the PS3, its not as if just bad games flop these days, its never certain for a TPD they will make a profit. Apart from the big name ones of course.

I agree.  And the gap is just not big enough to make 3rd parties decide there is no point supporting PS3.  It's different from last gen when from day one the gap between PS2 and Xbox or Gamecube was just immense and kept growing every day.  The huge cost of developing HD games also plays in PS3's favour since developers are likely to want their games to be multiplatform to generate a few more sales and make up that extra cost.

So M$ would only pay for the small games then? Their track record has shown that they really only care about the top performers being on 360. The few JRPGs they got were a special treat to Japan. M$ bought fallout 3 and GTA IV DLC, why not far cry 2 as well? ...because they're only interested in big hitters. Thus, M$ is only out to get more money for the already big IPs not some charity organization that you seem apt on painting them as.

I love how they think they're doing so much better. I hope they realize the only thing they have on PS3 is price, and depending on the person, games. As soon as Sony drops price their only advantage is gone, and it will depend on the person if they want an unreliable 360 or a PS3 which has blu ray and almost never breaks.

Nar PS3 will be fine in 2009 and 2010.

The day developers begin to abandon PS3 is the day 360 starts to die since if your dropping PS3 support so focus on a larger market why waste money making a 360 game when you make a Wii game ...

Microsoft trying to force SONY out of the game. Thats some really bad news for the gaming industry.

I am a MS fan but i really dont like this situation...

I don't think it's a smart move for sony to drop the price. PS3 sales may be low relative to wii and 360 but they aren't dire by any chance. There's also a good chance that M$ can take their price even lower so why accumulate new losses for a company in crisis? Look at Nintendo, they haven't changed their price since launch yet still wallop the competition. Sony needs to get those games out that people want that'll differentiate the ps3 experience from the xbox experience because the similarity between the consoles is the reason why pricing makes M$ the victor...but for someone who badly wants to play GOW3?
