Forums - Sony - What percentage of PS3 owners are FPS fans?

Eh...

I'm not even sure how you'd judge this.

Also... the reason why JRPGs aren't good for 360 is the same reason it's not good for PS3.

HD graphics cost mucho money... and JRPGs are a super niche genre.

I'm not sure i'd call myself a FPS fan.  I like a good one every now and again but i feel the genre is kinda stale.  Few games set themselves apart.

Of course i've got a 360 now too so... i really cancel myself out.

i never cared for fps until this gen. the beast of a game that awoken my thirst for fps are halo of course. although i still prefer and rpg/jrpg/srpg over and fps, unless its a real good one like cod4

but me ps3 owner is a semi fan of fps

I like my FPS, I own a PS3.. I simply can't understand how anyone can play FPS on console controllers (I've tried, I really have, resistance, vegas on console, mouse+keyboard is simply better). my FPSing is pretty much PC only.

I would say i'm a big fan, 13 out of the 40 PS3 games I own are FPS games. And seeing that FPS do pretty decent on the PS3, I would say around 25% of PS3 owners are fans of FPS games. So Killzone 2 should sell between 3-4 million, but thats just my guess.

I don't really have a genre that i like or dislike. All it ever boils down to for me is 1) am I interested in the games settings, 2) How good is the Story, 3) Are the Graphics and Gameplay decent enoguh to not intrude on the experiance.

To better awnser the question, here are the FPS that I own, and my like for them;

Half-Life - Awsome
Half-Life 2 - Crap, even on PC
Killzone - Favorite
Halo - Very Good
Halo 2 - Even better than 1
Halo 3 - Nothing new that exited me
Resistance 1 - On par with Halo 2
Resistance 2 - Just as crappy as HL2

I will buy Killzone 2.

you can make a list like i did with wat consoles the vgc community own and start tracking all who post

I'm not big into FPS last i played was old CatsleWolf & Doom back in the 90's and GoldenEye for 64 but with this lean & peak cover system KZ2 has i'll be jumping back into fps

If more FPS had the lean & peak system i'd be more of a fps fan

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

How many of those will be within the first 24-48 hours and the first month?

Let's take 4 million as the high end over 2 years, and then apply this chart to it (from here):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_adoption_lifecycle

You have 2.5% who are out in front.

Then you have 13.5% who come in early.

Then the bulk of sales at 34%.

Then the late bulk 34%.

Then the last remaining folk at 16%.

For the sake of math, let's bump up lifetime sales of Killzone 2 to 6 million.

If 6 million is the target, should then expect around 180,000 within the first 24-48 hours.

Then, for early adopters, say the first month or so, 800,000 to 900,000

Then the rest would follow.  The title would push around 2 million sold within the first few months.

People can massage this a bit accounting for there being February launch and so on.  How early the sales depends on whether or not Gamestops do things like midnight madness launches.

Now if we were talking about Blu-Ray adoption, or DD adoption, then your chart would have some value to it.  But everyone knows that video game sale are extremely front loaded, tailing off at the end.

Before this gen, I have always played most of my RTS and FPS on the PC, and used the console for arcade/action, platformers, and sports titles. That changed this gen when UTIII supported keyboard+mouse on the PS3. That sucked me in. By and large, though, I struggle with the Dual Shock when it comes to FPS.

I'll still buy Killzone 2 though. It just looks too pretty to ignore.
