Is there any way to turn off (as a standard setting) what other people are gibbering about through their mic?

I can appreciate people actually using their mic to make gaming better and more fun for the entire team (talking about Resistance 2 here).

So people shouting they are running low on their shield, or that they need backup or whatever, is perfect for me.

On the other hand, those nitwits that run through an entire skirmish game talking to someone else about how they fucked the girl next door, with quite some graphical detail about a girl I'm glad I don't know.... is not my idea of a good use of a microphone.  And because most of those nitwits also manage to turn their mic or their sound up so that I hear that conversation 4 times in a single second, I'd like to mute them all.

I know there is a mute option where you can click and mute each and every fellow player, but I was wondering whether there was a mute-button in general, meaning that I never have to mute specific people but so that I can play without some idiot shouting through the game.

I thought this was the only one this happened to! I just try to ignore it and put the volume down. No option that I know of, but I'd love it.

Ah... HL had that taken care off quite a while ago... Have games gone backwards?? or is it just a console game issue?

@ kantor: Maybe you were in the same game as I was >_>

@ hephaestos: no idea, perhaps there is such an option, I'm just not aware of it
