It doesn't make sense to try to predict whether Halo 3 or Gran Turismo 5 will have bigger sales. They'll both sell very well and in the end, the differences won't be that huge.

GTA IV could take this if it was release on a single platform only. Or maybe one of its sequels could do it.

I don't think there's a chance GT5 outsells Halo 3. There's WAY more competition in the racing genre nowadays that is up to that kind of quality. GT5 will sell well, but I'd be shocked if it does more than 8 million, assuming the install base doesn't go through the roof somehow.

Well, considering the userbase of the PS2 when GT3 was released, the PS3 isn't very far from that now. And competition? Sure, but GT is a name recognized by many. Even GT5: Prologue has sold pretty much despite only being a 'demo' (I wouldn't call it that but whatever). I'm not telling GT5 will beat Halo 3 but I'm saying it's definitely possible.

There is almost no chance that GT5 will outsell Halo3. The game will have amazing sales no doubt, but the series is getting old and its showing. They need the best weather system and car damage to have a chance at passing Halo3.

I thought damage was confirmed? And what exactly is a 'best' weather system? And why is it so important?

PS2 sold at a rate of increase that the PS3 does not have. That has a dramatic effect on the sales of a title.

Say the game release on both consoles when they have 12 million install base. The game sells for 4 years. Console A in that time period has achieved twice the sales as console B.

Do you honestly expect the game to still have sold the same amount on both consoles?

You never know, the GTA franchise was brought up in just one gen, just as the GT in the previous one...


There are at least three more happy selling years ahead. So anything can happen.


And, if GT5 comes out next year with a PS3 user base close to 30 M it might outrun Master Chief himself.

IIRC Halo 3 is not even a HD game (need to be 720p minimum for that), so if that's true this thread is a failure already.

And if you want to nomite a most sold HD game, don't forget that HD is a novelty on consoles but not on PC...
