Forums - Sales - What will be the best selling franchise this generation?

I think the problem here is you used the word franchise.... Mario is a franchise, Mario Kart is just a series.

Halo is a franchise.... and when Halo Wars comes out (which I think is a strategy game???) it will be a franchise that spans 2 genres, but it's still part of the same franchise just the same as Mario Kart is to Super Mario Galaxy.

Similarly Wii__ is a franchise, splitting it up into genres doesn't make it 2 franchises.... and Wii music is not a minigame compilation by the way. It's more in with Brain Training and Wii Fit than Wii Play. (Wii Fit being both a minigame compilation as well as an excercise title, which isn't exactly sports)

I know, but if I hadn't split it up,

1. Wii series

2. Mario

Would be obvious as the first 2, and that would make people completely un-interested in this.

The Sims will be the best selling franchise this generation, DUH! It will probably sell like over 100 millions copies this generation.

Yeah, about that - can you find some info proving this? The only valid info about the Sims I have found was 80M sold at the end of 05 (but that was a bit doubtable as well).

And I sincerely doubt 100M for The Sims.

So, overall - show me some proof, and I'll consider adding it.

And The Sims 3 is coming in a couple of months, so yeah, it has a great chance of selling 100 millions copies during this generation.

 Damnit, VGChartz deleted my post.

Anyway, thanks for posting that.

15M of that is from consoles, right?

Then there seems to be a 50M vs 30M split for The Sims 1 vs The Sims 2. Assuming the Sims 3 will sell over 50M seems like a ridiculous dream to me, but I may be missing something.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

Are you counting the handheld versions of Call of Duty and GTA?

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Check out MyAnimeList and my Game Collection. Owner of the 5 millionth post.

I'll say COD.  Its an annual multiplatform release that sells 10 million plus copies a year.

if your talking about just a single game then its gotta be a wii game. on 360 and ps3 then im gonna go for GT5.

 Yup, I think so.

I did not count any Ps2 games here though, even though they have had sales after the start of this gen.

Two franchises that you forgot:

Lego: Current sales 17.32M (These games have long, long legs. A Lego Harry Potter game will sell billions.)

Imagine: Current Sales 10.95 (People complain about Ubisoft shovel-ware, but these games sell to their intended demographic. Soon to be 6 million selling DS titles, and they are just getting started on the Wii.)

Great! They're not in the competition for the top place (or even top 3), but they're still relevant.

I'll add them.
