I believe the number of PS2s (worldwide) has increased by about 23-24 million worldwide since the XBox360s release. I don't think VGChartz data actually goes back that far (with hardware), and I don't know for certain.

And what does this have to do with anything?

I was responding to a question about it, and frankly, its a statement about how much day-to-day new marketshare Sony actually commands -- its pretty much on par with Nintendo's, until only very recently.  The PS2 is still a serious competitor, and can't be discounted until Sony discontinues it.

To the contrary (of discontinuing it), they released a new slimline last year in Japan (and a couple months back in the EU/US) which has an internal power supply, and a further parts reduction.  It's still goin' strong -- Sony has 3 players on the field, not 1( MS), or 2 (Nintendo).  If your aim is to analyze marketshare, rather than cheer on your favorite "modern" console, this is pretty important.

Let the J man ask you this , why isnt nds sales included in the wii's marketshare? Because they are completely different hardware and as such get completely different games. Same thing with the ps2 and why it isnt included in sonys marketshare in the whatever generation this is.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

I expect NDP thursday to give the Wii some of that 340k adjustment back ; ). I believe that most of the adjustment was from france.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Ok, I am gonna come right out in say it,

in the UK at least these sales do not add up.
360- 32k
Wii- 34k

Charttrack had WiiPlay at no 2 behind WiiFit I believe. WiiPlay trends basically the same as the Wii as most WiiPlay is purchased at the time of a Wii purchase.

While ku fu and lego charted between 15-25 and they have a 100% attach rate. WiiPlay has at the most a 50% attach rate. Also Sega Superstars Tennis is not even charting so the Arcade must not have had great sales.

I dont know, it just does not add up.

Kung Fu and Lego Indiana have 100% among their SKUs. Unless I'm incorrect, that would mean 1/3 or less of the X360s sales.

Wii Play may very well have had above 50% AR (in the UK), as some people bought it now, seeing they needed a second remote.

So we get

2nd place = Wii Play ~ 16K

20th place = KungFu/Lego ~ 10K

That's possible

I'm not saying it is likely, but I'm saying your proof isn't really enough.
