Forums - Nintendo - Ubisoft: Wii is a "Girl-driven" system

Isn't Wii's userbase 50/50 in terms of genders? Or was that DS?

I remember Nintendo posting statistics on this a while ago, just don't remember for which one.

That was DS.  Last I heard Wii had 30-35% female but that was a long time ago now and I'm sure it's grown since then to maybe 40% (based on absolutely nothing than antidotal evidence and the fact I said so)

The Sims market is grlz driven too? Right?

I know a couple of girls that own Wii. Their Wii-library consists of the usual(Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Mario Galaxy), none of them buys or even wants Ubisoft Wii-games. They want more substansial games than Imagine Pary Babiez

@ Outcast - BringBackChrono just said it for me. Girls may like to play with horses but My Horse and Me by Atari is superior to Ubisofts offering. Their games for girls are usually cheaply made affairs and girls deserve better.

Ubisoft also has nothing for all those women who own Wiis. So I don't think they're in a position to brag (although their still further ahead than 95% of the industry when it come to female oriented games).

No, you are completely wrong. You have never played any of the games you're talking about and I doubt you've ever even seen them. Girls and younger children have no expectations about quality or game play. They want to play a game about horses even if you or the enthusiast press hardcore games reviewers don't.

have those franchises actually sold well at all on wii? i always thought imagine games generally sold poorly on wii

@Outcast
So what you mean to say is that since these users have no expectations as per the quality of the games(maybe because they havent played any before) gives Ubisoft the right to exploit that and produce below par software?
I can tell you that if they keep on pulling this shit, other developers will enter these markets and produce games 10 times better.Im guessing the little girls will then realize the difference between a turd and a good game.

The Wii definitely leads the other consoles with female gamers. But the Wii itself is not solely girl-driven. Whoever says this should go to hell and die :p

My cousin (a few months older than me so not exactly a girl) bought a DS, she bought Nintendogs and loves it (and Mario Kart and a couple of other decent [to us gamers] games).

She also bought Catz, and some game about fashion... and hated them.

Quality speas for itself... a game can still be a great game even if it is about fashion design, but Ubisoft don't put the effort in, limited options and poor menus are as equally noticable by new gamers as old.

What wrong with girls playing games?

IT's no secret Wii is popular with the ladies but Ubisofts lame gymnastics and horse titles aren't doing anything for the Wii except maybe exploiting it's users.

Last I checked the Wii owners were still majority male too but I don't think there's anything wrong with it having equal appeal amongst women.

They may be lame to you, but they're certainly more interesting to young girls than Zelda or whatever you may enjoy.

Not to pick on you or anything, but i've actually found Zelda to be one of the core titles out there that had the most appeal among girls.

Could be anecdotal evidence, of course, but that's just what i've seen.
